|
|
Hi
I figure I'm gonna be in schools for a few years yet so I've decided to slowly buy easy english books and act as a library for the kids I teach.
I'm hoping to build up the collection slowly and start with cheapy books at the moment.
I'm teaching middle school girls. My current plan is to buy some comics, and I thought some Roal Dahl (ok I cant spell the first name) might be interesting for them, Charlie and the chocolate factory, the twits, the witches, BFG etc etc.
Any idea where I can get these on the cheap (comics especially as books last lots longer).
Thanks
Chris
oh and chiaa, if u read this, got any roal dahl? |

What about Ebay? I have got some really good deals from there.
Don't know if you are in Seoul, but you could look around the second hand book shops around Itaewon!
Ask your relatives to look around jumble sales for you and send them over? |

Oxford Bookworm has a very good series. They are cheap and easily available. They also have comprehension questions etc in the back of the books. I think it's noble of you to buy them, but really shouldn't your school give you the money? |

Go to the free book exchange for foreigners. See the sticky on the General Discussion forum. It's once a month and lucky for you, that's this coming Sunday. There are a lot of trashy paperbacks (and some good ones) and you can probably take a couple of them for free. They don't hold you to a one-for-one trade, as long as you aren't hogging the few good books. Anyway it's a nice place to meet some folks. |

Wow thanks Joe I'll DEFINATELY head there, tho I dont have many books to trade in.... 2 to be precise :S (well 3 if i can read an entire book by sunday)
Anyway I can blag some books with cash instead?
And in answer to dessells question, I'm buying them myself cause I want them to follow me to subsequent jobs. I'm only 22 and gonna be in this gig a while, uni jobs are a little way off (i'm younger than most of the students ) so I'll be in the public schools for a good long time.
I really want directions to buy good cheap english comics. These will be a. cheaper and b. more popular with kids. Can I just get them from Kyobo???
Thanks!

I've got over 200 extra titles right now (picture books, beginning readers, and chapter books), all in mint condition, that I'd love to get out of the house. Just haven't had a chance to type up the complete list of titles and post on Buy/Sell/Trade. PM me if you're interested. |

Hey Chris, I really gotta take you to that ESL bookshop by the CGV I keep talking about. It has a bunch of dumbed-down versions of children's classics. I'll be around Bupyeoung tomorrow if you want to give me a call. |

'abridged' is the correct euphemism for 'dumbed down'
but do tell where this bookstore is |

Incheon line one, Arts Centre subway station, take exit 4 and walk towards TGI Fridays, not far, the bookshop is in the basement floor of the same building. |

About the VCDs...we could meet one the weekend to return them and I could take you to the bookstore if you want. |

That little basement store (up the street past Lotte before you cross the street for CGV and Carrefour) is about the best Incheon has to offer for an English bookstore - which isn't saying much. |

It has a reasonable selection of ESL books and they are happy to order anything that is not currently in stock. It saves a special trip to Seoul!!! |
