How old do you think you have to be before you'd be a viable candidate for university?

I'm only 22 (23 k age) so I'm guessing I'm WELL under the age required (being younger than most studying there Very Happy) but its something I'd be looking to do in the not too distant future.

Interestingly enough I was told by a uni that I was too old when I was looking for a new job back in Feb.

Apparently some unis won't take anybody over 30.

I wonder what they're worried about. Was readin' the board last year and heard about that prof who was hiring hookers with his credit card. He was older. Maybe they thought you'd be up to the same? Shocked

I got told I wasn't old enough, I'm 23 (25 Korean age), but I think that was just a cover story because they didn't like me..............

Depends. I know someone who was hired and she's only 23 - no masters, no experience, just a BA. But it's not a very good university, I hear.

Same here. When I was a co-coordinating instructor with a university (my previous job), we hired a guy who was 23 yrs old. The Director of the program balked a little, but my co-coordinator & I argued that he was qualified and deserves a chance, and I'm happy to say he's still there and doing well (a year and a half and counting).

It depends on the school of course, but most unis want teachers that are older than their oldest students....which is 27 or 28 Korean age. They do make an exception here and there, but they usually opt for older teachers.

The university I work seems to have teachers in every age range - from 22 to 65.

Most however appear to be in their 30s and 40s.

The first university I worked at used to hire young 'uns fresh out of university but after a couple of bad experiences last year I was told that they are no longer interested in hiring Frat boys...

New target age is 28 or older... I know this because I just got a buddy of mine from England hired there.
