Overclocking Willamette cores is rewarding. A successful overclock could make it perform on par with a non-overclocked 800Mhz P4 of the same speed.

Before attempting an overclock (although you said you have done it already), purchase an aftermarket cooler. The Zalman ones rock and will keep the CPU cool. Also remeber that your RAM will be overclocked as well, unless you can lock it in the BIOS, which you can on most mobos.

bring my 2ghz to 2.4 has not caused major issues in the heat department...but I will pick up a cooler anyway. Better safe than sorry.

Wink

Anyone else up and running yet? As everydavid points out, it might be fun to hit the Korean servers. My callsign is gaelforce, same as my Dave's login.
I'd certainly be up for during the week. It would beat the hell out of watching CSI reruns after work.

As the old Cannon Fodder (really old but fun game) theme-tune says: "War- never had so much fun."

I should be ready to play by next monday. I will pick up the game and 1 gig of ram in Seoul or Daejon on Saturday or Sunday. My call sign will be jeyo....if my wife plays hers will be jeyo2.

How much is a 1gig ddr chip these days?

on pricewatch I saw some quotes as low as 65 bucks.

I recommend at least 1.5 gigs of ram. I have 1, and it lags a lot on medium settings because of that. I'm upgrading to 2 gigs as soon as I can.

1.5GB or RAM?!? No, I think you lag is from the graphics card (framebuffer writing back to either system RAM or pagefile), not RAM. 1 GB is enough for any game out there right now.

It says that a 256MB video card is recommended.

256MB! OUCH!

They are pricey!

Any Idea on what a 1gig stick will run me? 266 is better as my system bus is 533mhz.

The lowest i have seen online is 95000.

No, you're wrong. It's definitely the RAM. Upgrading fixed it completely. Maybe what you should have said is "1 GB is enough for any game out there right now except BF2".

@ thebum: A poorly-coded engine then. I have since read similarthings on other forums about it being a RAM hog. Senseless.

@ komtengi: To check your video card:Rt-click on the desktop and select "Properties", then the last tab on the top right, them "Advanced in the bottom right. From there, click the "Adapter" tab....it should tell you everything.

So, out of the listed video cards, which one is the best value? I've seen some 256 MB cards for around $60 on Ebay...

I must play this game!

Spend a lot on the card and medium price for RAM. Slower RAM is...not bad with games. That said, medium cost, not the real cheap-o stuff. Getthe same as you currently have...exactly the same. Brand, serial...everything.

Graphics....hmmm.....well, the Nvidia 6xxx series are the only way to fly with them. The whole 5xxx was a joke.

ATI? Well, the X700 sems to be the card of choice. Fast and economical.

What kind of mainboard do you have? This of course, will change the direction you will go with graphics. If an older mainboard, the it's AGP cards, not PCI-E. They are different in their bus speeds and connectors. You can't interchange them. If you haven't a clue, thats fine. Not to worry.
Please post back with your mainboard make and model, and we can go from there.
