O.K, it's embarrassing to admit, but one of the most difficult things for me to do is to board an airplane. Last flight to the Phillipines, I almost had a panic attack. Now, I have an upcoming 11 hour flight to L.A in about a month. Can any of you good souls suggest any kind of medicine available in Korea that will conk me out? I tried that mind over matter crap, but that doesn't work. It doesn't help for the millionth person to say "but flying is much safer than driving." Probably getting plastered by alcohol is not a good idea either...I mean, I can't be drunk for 11 hours, can I?
If anyone can offer sound advice and not make fun of me too much, I'd be very grateful. Wink

No specific advice on meds, but just want to let you know I empathize. I have an incredible flying phobia and go through hell, particularly on the long flights back to NA. Ironically, with age and lots of travelling experience, it has just gotten worse.

A website that may have some info for you, is http://www.airdisaster.com/fearofflying/, although I should warn you that the airdisaster site itself contains accident info. The fear of flying message board though offers good advice from actual recovered fearful flyers and pilots.

I'm also going to pm you a pm I received a long time ago from another poster dealing with a strategy for taking xanax to handle fear of flying, if I still have it.

Take care.

I read a book about airplanes and their safety.. for example, the chances of crashing, engine failures, etc.. and the possibility of a crash is so remote it cured my fears.

I also had a fear of the plane just falling out of the sky.. and realized its impossible..

Are you my sock!?!?!? Shocked I am the same..the more I have travelled and with age, the wose I am getting. I'm also more uptight when travelling alone....the thought of an accident when I am all by myself sends me into total panic.

To the OP - I take Gravol. I think its available here, although you would need to know the generic name, which I can't remember ... dramamine? 2 chill me right out and put me right to sleep and even when I wake up for another one, I am so groggy that I don't care.

Take the first one in the departure lounge, they kick in within 30 minutes.
