It certainly looks very bomb and aircraft-proof. I can't see that collapsing- the angled corners and faces would be more likely to deflect than absorb.
It inspires confidence.

It's a cool building, there are better around the world but it looks good on paper.

It would be interesting to see what types of business move in there. The 911 attack -resectfully- wasn't an attack on the US but an attack on the world, people from all around the world died there. It wasn't just a tragedy for Americans.

Most people around the world agreed with the action taken against Afghanistan and more specifically the Taliban scumbags (I would have agreed on military action against the Taliban long before the 911 terror attack).

Iraq was a mistake, and alienated many strong allies of the US. It was an arrogant mistake or a mistake born of ignorance and arrogance.

Sorry to politicise the thread but this building is going to have a lot of scrutiny. I think it's a pretty cool building anyway.

They should've built three towers slightly different from the old ones.

You destroy two, we build three!! Now that would've been an act of defiance!

The "defiant" aspect is undercut by the fact that most of the tower's height is made up of antenna.

I do like the way it echoes the building up city- I think it must be the Chrysler building (oops! I actually think it might be the Empire State Building, on second look). It makes it feel more like it fits into the old city.

Looks good to me. Keeps the skyline looking nice. I like that it faces the 911 monument.

I like the design okay. The important thing is to build something.

And I don't think it's possible to make something that big that will withstand a couple of planes smashing into it ... the point is, you knock it down, we'll build it back, you knock that one down, we'll build another.

And so on.

Freedom Tower is a waste of money. Spend it money on alternative energy research. That is real freedom.

I think it should have hidden anti-aircraft missile launchers.

You mean they would shoot down a civilian passenger airline if it was coming in to hit the tower??

The location is all wrong.

It should be built right in the center of the crater where Mecca is/once was.

I think it fits in with the other buildings just nicely, and I am pleasantly surprised with it. The other versions looked very awkward, and I never liked Trump's idea of simply rebuilding the old towers. I like the "twisty" look to the new building... very cool. The blue light shining upward will also give New York a new look really, almost futuristic. But the name, "freedom tower" is a bit... I dunno... hasn't this "freedom" word been played to death recently? I guess it's well-named in that it reflects the era in which it was built, a sad era for the U.S. (where the concept of "freedom" was being critically evaluated by many, the status of the country in the world has fallen significantly, and the economy and future prospects have dimmed)... so you could look at the name in multiple ways. "Freedom tower" almost has a sad ring to it... I think anyways.

Overall, I think it's a nice improvement over those ugly twin tower buildings which really weren't aesthetically pleasing at all, they were pretty boring looking.

I like this new tower much better. I hope they include a memorial with it.
