What would be a good five minute type performance I could get a group of about twenty middle school students to do and enjoy?
A play takes too long, so I'm thinking about music.
It should be minimal on props and staging.
I've thought about it, but I keep coming up with nothing. I prefer teaching over theatrics. |

Get them to do a scene from a musical like Oliver Twist, The Sound of Music, or The Wizard of Oz - something that gives star roles to the more confident ones but has a lot of supporting characters. Are they boys or girls or both? |

A mixture of girls and boys, and they are of higher level than the average middle school student.
Doing a scene from something longer sounds like a good idea. |

The market scene or Fagen's den scene from Oliver would work well - or the ump-pa-pa beer hall scene; the munchkin scene from Wizard would be fun; and Koreans already seem to know a bit about the Sound of Music ... the Von Trapp family could always have 16 or 18 children, lol. I'm sure somewhere on the Internet someone's posted the scripts and scores. |
