This is from an adult student, but just as priceless.

We were talking about nutrition and diet, and the question was why obesity has been increasing among children.

Answer:

"Many parents feed their children junk food because it requires less hand jobs in the kitchen."

And kids remind me how clueless I must have been as a kid.

You hear stuff a lot (usually in Korean):

"Are all Americans hairy?" (I'm a hairy armed Canadian)

"Do Canadians have blue eyes, too?"

"Is China in Japan?"

" Is the sky blue in America, too?"

(actually said by elementary kids)

But certainly kindergarteners say even more incredible things. One good one I heard, they were speaking Korean, was a serious argument over whether a shark could beat up a dinosaur. I laughed all day about it.

Some students told me the other day that they don't believe I'm from the US because my eyes aren't blue. It took some convincing that not all Americans have blue eyes, and that we are all actually different races from different parts of the word.

I got a funny opportunity to teach the importance if using plurals when a student told me "I like hamster."

Similarly, many people have believed that my eyes are blue, simply because I'm from the USA. It took some convincing before they would agree that my eyes were, in fact, green.

It's really quite incredible, isnt it? They watch a lot of western movies and TV but still appear to be clueless.

Ok, if you are under 10 years old you are forgiven for knowing nothing.

But this stuff comes from adults too.

From fill-in-the-blanks exercises:

* Ed is an ass-hole. He never does any work.

* Maria is walking because she can't find her keys.

* Anyone can ride a bicycle. It's a bicycle.

* He asked her for a date, but she said him crazy.

* We don't have any cat food. I don't care.
