I am looking for any body in Bundang who is interested in studying Hapkido near Yatap station with me. I am a total beginner and the other guys in the class all kind of faded away for one reason or another.

I can tell you that it is really exciting and kind of violent, which I think makes it even more exciting. Let me know....

Do you already have a school with an english speaking instructor or are you looking for one?

I studied Hapikdo in Bundang during my last contract and the instructor was amazing, even though he didn't speak a word of english. (it wasn't necessary). However, my schedule this time round conflicts with his unless I want to share a class with a bunch of kids... which I don't.

So if you've got a school in Yatap let me know the schedule, I'd be looking for evening classes at 7:30pm without a bunch of kids to share it with.

I'm resurrecting this old thread because I may soon be headed to Bundang. If so, I will be looking for a good Hapkido instructor in the area, and preferably one who speaks some English.

Any recommendations?

Try to get one who doesn't speak English. You'll learn Korean a lot faster that way.

What exactly is Hapkido? Similar to Taekwondo? I see these Hapkido places around where I live but I've yet to discover what they actually are. Anyone care to enlighten my dull mind? Laughing

If you want to know more about Hapkido, google should help... or even past threads on Dave's. But, basically, it's a martial art that concentrates on the necessities of fighting outside a ring... like falling down without getting hurt, removing others hands from you when they grab you, putting people in those arm locks that allow you to walk them around like a doggie as you'd like... etc. There is also kicking and in some kinds of hapkido, forms (memorized series of moves). At more advanced levels, defending against knives, guns, etc., at even higher, using a tool to defend yourself against knives, guns, etc. (like using a small stick, a cane, a jacket, a bag strap, etc.) At really high levels you even use weapons... but not until any decent instructor is sure you'll never use them on anyone.

It's focused on self-defense.
