So today I had a bitter sweet celebration. My computer at work died. That computer was a complete piece of crap, took 15 minutes to load internet explorer, would quit applications just out of nowhere and of course crash 5 or 6 times a day. so I was really happy when the computer crashed and wouldn't restart this mornin (aisde from losing my plans for summer vacation). Well first up the students replaced my whole computer. I mentioned that it would be good if I could salvage some of my stuff so just came back to find they got old CPU up and running. But they replaced my keyboard with a munted space bar
So I'm still stuck with the worst computer in the schooland now have a dodgy keyboard but I did get a better screen
Everyone else of course has a notebook which they can plug into the TV and a USB port or two so they are stuck using floppy drives |

Ok, CLMG, am I going to have to PM JackTheCat to put your post in the Technology forum where it belongs?? (hahaha, just kidding)
My computer is a Pentium Pro, whatever the heck that means. I think that's a Pentium 2 233 mhz of some sort.
Talk about a dinosaur!
I should feel lucky, because it has a sticker on the front which says, "Year 2000 compliant."
I have been thinking about asking for something different. |

Mine sucks and all the K teachers have brand new notebooks or CD screens.
I bitched about it one day and got nowhere, though the tech guy did commit suicide the next day by jumping in front of a train but that's another story. |

I just use my own personal laptop at the moment (its got all the files I need, my music, I can bring in power point stuff on it) and lug it back and forth between school and home.
Unfortunately it's dying a slow, painful death at the moment and is not long for this world. How it's still running after all the abuse I've put it through over the years is beyond me. Sony builds some good stuff.
My school has offered to build me a bare bones desk top to replace it (working at a computer and languages private school has it's benefits), but I'm holding out, trying to convince them to buy me a new laptop. |

My school provided a notebook to me when I arrived. It isn't the best, but at least it's up to date with a cd burner, windows xp and the like. It could be a lot better and it could be a lot worse.
I'd actually prefer to have a desktop and am jealous of all of the other teachers that have them because of their sleek new high definition monitors, but eeeh, I'll settle for what I have. |

| I usually bring my laptop but I also have a brand-new, blazing fast desktop in my classroom. Lately it's had some odd freeze-ups but since it only takes about 30 seconds to re-boot... |

| Last year, I had a computer running windows 95, but back in March, they upgraded all the computers. Still no CD burner or DVD player ( retards) but it's fast, virus free and has a nice big mostly empty hard drive. |

I bring my laptop from home (Centrino 1.4) to work on and print from which my boss helped me pay for (I get to keep it and everything), and I have a new P4 3.0 at home that my boss just helped me pay for again (I get to keep it too!!!)
The work computers...ha ha ha. P3 500 mhz, 128 RAM, 4GB HDD, CD-ROMs, crappy 15" CRT (not flat) monitors running Win 2000.
I've tried telling the boss several times that if he would just give me 400.000 I could upgrade the office machine to a pretty nice system, but he's a bit cheap sometimes. Go figure.

My high school work computer seems able to handle any game that I have tried to play on it, so I would rate it as sufficient. However, a nice LCD screen would not be refused.
My complaint is that I am unable to download any movies or music, Incheon Ministry of Education deems this as illegal behaviour. |

Shared computers in office all, with no exceptoins, suck ass. John Boy goes to one site and installs something, and Joe goes to his favorite site and installs something, and Jill goes to some other site and installs something and on it goes, with everybody insisting that they only do what they do at home and it works fine there.
Being the alpha in my office I usually get the requests to fix everything up, but I stopped doing that because nobody listens to my preventative ideas.
If you want a good computer, buy one. |

My school has almost all of the game sites blocked. Always easy to get around that little rule by going to more obscure sites. Hee, hee. Most of the kids don't understand where I got the Tetris from.
Anyway, back to the matter at hand. The school computer I use in the office works fine enough. It's a desktop with Windows 98(Korean) on it. I guess '95 would be better if support was still given by Microsoft. Most of the newer-version Microsoft operating systems are crap. The computer could be worse, could be much better. Wish that the previous foreigners were better with cleaning their stuff before they left. The second computer I use on a daily basis is in the English Room and it has problems. Viral problems. Actually, many of the other classrooms' computers have the same problem. Anyway, I took it upon myself to fix the problem as it doesn't seem like anyone else is jumping to fix it.
I'm not going to complain too much though. My com at home is sweet, very sweet. I also think that many of the Korean teachers had to pay for their laptops, but I may be wrong about that as there was a shipment of about 10 new ones the other day. Not sure who got them. Even though I was staring at them with the greenest eye of envy, I don't think I'm on the list of recipients.
On a scale of 1-10, I would rate the computers that I access at my school a maximum of 6. Computer security would be given a generous 1. |

| my work computer is fairly nice i suppose. Flat screen moniter P4 2.6 processor. The only problem is all the games and programs everyone has downloaded onto it. It has picked up some nasty problems. Its much slower than before and I can't defrag it. everytime I try an error message pops up. arggh |
