Hi guys,

I've FINALLY got my plans for this summer in black and white from my school.

Basically it breaks down like this

Summer camp: 2 weeks

Time off: 1.5 weeks

"Conversation" classes: 2 weeks

Now these conversation classes are somewhat of an enigma, I'm seeing them as school thinking "Chris is contracted here, and this is a good time for some extra classes". Unfortunately thats as far as their thinking goes, I've asked what they want me to teach and they looked at me with blank smiling faces.

SO I'm looking for some ideas, my day will be as follows:

10.00-11.30: Teaching 10 year 2s (middle school)
2.00-3.30: Teaching 18 year 3s (middle school)

As you can see its not too heavy a schedule and at a pinch I can simply teach them my summer camp lessons. BUT I really feel for these kids having to be in school ALL summer holiday so I want to keep it as fun for them as possible.

My current ideas

Read a book, give reviews

Read one story and act it out in a play (this can be done over numerous lessons)

Cooking (now I doubt my school will let me into the kitchen so I want simple things) currently my ideas are peanut butter and jelly sarnies, cookie dough and I'll either cook them at home or I'll bring in my toaster oven.

Videos, disney films on the big tv. I'll include some nibbles for them too
Then questions on the movie, discussions etc.

Games, monopoly, scrabble.

A treasure hunt

The last day will be spent playing my Xbox, Super Monkey Ball etc.

Not sure how I'll encorporate English into the proceedings but i'm sure it'll make the kids happy.

Thats all I'm coming up with currently. I was wondering if people knew other items which could keep the kids happy, I want them to learn but at the same time I want them to have just a LITTLE bit of holiday too.

Ideas and criticism of the ones above will be greatly appreciated.

Blunder you may find that these "lucky" students are the highest scoring students on the tests and this is their reward, to study in an intensive English course with you.

That's how it works at my school.

Or they may just be a random assortment of kids who happen to be hanging around for the summer & volunteered & their teachers chose them by rock, paper, scissors.

Plan for fun, keep it on the easy side, & if they all turn out to be high achievers, they'll run with whatever.
