Blue Mountain coffee comes from Jamaica and its supposed to be the best in the world. The Koreans have for sale in every mom and pop store except I really don't think its really Blue Mountain coffee. A pound for Blue Mountain goes for about $30 but here it goes for W6,000. |

I've heard a lot of people say that Blue Mountain is the best coffee in the world. Of course, all of those people were selling it.
It's certainly not the best coffee in the world as far as I'm concerned, but to each his or her own.

I don't know about Blue Mountain but a lot of great coffee's can be got in the basement of Hyundai Dept. Store at Samseong. At a price, of course.
I use the Kirkland Signature Beans (roasted by Starbucks) from Costco. 16,000 for a kilo of pretty good coffee. I use a neat little hand grinder bought from Hyundai Dept store and make espresso with my Italian stove-top coffee maker. Excellent. |

I've been drinking "Sulawesi" for about 13 years. Starbucks introduced me to it but other coffee merchants sell it as well. Its named after the island in Indonesia where its grown. Verily, to each his own and I genuinely seek out Sulawesi. I did an internship at a programming shop and I had to make a coffe run to Starbucks to get this stuff. I botched it up and got "coffee". They got mad about it. |

Blue Mountain is the generally considered the most expensive coffee in the world but I don't think it's the best. There's a less expensive version called High Mountain that I always found tasted better. Many people swear by kona. The Blue Mountain you find in Korean stores might also be a blend. I personally wouldn't trust a Korean label that said 100% Blue Mountain. |

Now, take this only as seriously as you want to.
Ten years ago, I struck up a friendship with the owner of a Caribbean spice and goods importer, and I would spend my off hours from cooking bad Mexican food at her place, where she'd let me try the latest hot sauces and stuff.
We got into a conversation one day about coffees, and she told me that most all Blue Mountain coffee is controlled by the Japanese mafia. |

Part of its high price is virtue of the fact the Japanese do indeed buy the lion's share of the crop. |
