"Air Force planes, Navy patrol boats and helicopters, and the coast guard were mobilized to trace the missing jet fighters and airmen right after the incidents, and the U.S. military also dispatched aircraft to help the search operation."

"We are closely examining the radio messages between the pilots involved in the training missions to seize the situation more exactly," Yoon said.

Air Force officials said the aging jet fighters may be an important factor in the accidents, but the exact cause was still under investigation.

The missing F-4E and F-5F are 37 years and 22 years old, respectively, according to the officials.
