I've got KT ADSL Lite right now and it's overpriced at 40,000 won per month for just the broadband connection. I've seen posts about Hanaro and Thrunet being a lot cheaper and better and also come with promotional gifts and extras.

How do you get these deals? I went to my local Hanaro and they said the no-frills ADSL package would be 38,000. I'm in Seoul, if locality matters at all. Please post what kind of deals you all got and how much your service costs!

TIA

Hanaro offered my g/f first month internet for free and a gift up to the value of 70,000. We took a splendid little rice cooker.

38,000 per month. Including a land line. They even supplied the phone.

That was last September.

As with all companies, promotions come and go. It really takes a Korean or a foreigner who speaks Korean very well to wade through the options.

Last weekend we switched to Hanaro and got a blender. My just told me that the give & deal depends on which branch you deal with. So everyone can get soemthing different depending on where they live.

FYI, my bittorrent download speeds are 5x faster over thrunet.

I joined KT and got fast, reliable service without any gimmicky, 5 dollar gifts.

Wink

Different IPs can filter certain ports or throttle certain ports that are commonly used for P2P stuff. Perhaps Hanaro are doing this. A good idea is to change these ports anyways...just so as not to worry.

how fast is this then? I'm intrigued...
I get 260kbps regularly with bitorrent on Thrunet. If you are getting 1.25mbps I'll be impressed...

Demophobe, how would you go about changes these ports? As I posted before it seems as though Hanaro placed an UL limit speed on my cable line. I feel the need for speed!

Yeah. I got hooked up with ABN in Bundang 2 years ago. Decent internet (it dropped out a few times but only for a few hours). For 13,000 a month you can't ask for more. I think it included cable TV too. Right?

I don't know about gifts and things, but I've always gotten great customer support from the people at KT. I've had trouble twice in the past year or so, and both times a repair guy was there within two hours of me calling them.

What kind of trouble? Did the repair guy do any good?

I'm having real troubles with them lately for the third or fourth time and intend calling Hanaro in the morning.
