|
|
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone could recommend some cool/fun/interesting places to visit within Seoul on the weekends. I live in Incheon a.k.a. slum city, so I tend to visit Seoul most weekends as an alternative. I've already been to places such as Hongdae, Shinchon, Insadong, Myeong-dong, Gyeongbokgung, Doksugung, World Cup Stadium and this weekend will visit Dongdaemun. I tend to hang out a lot in the same places which has become a little boring now.
So if anyone can suggest other cool places to visit in the city then I would appreciate the advice. I like exploring so am pretty willing to see/do most things.
What are your top 5 or top 10 favourite places in Seoul? |

Not if you plan on visiting the zoo there it's not. And the amusement park is not better than Lotte World. That leaves the gallery. |

Check with the Tourist Organization for Subway Tours of Seoul. There are several of them. Cheap. You can explore lots of different areas with a map to guide you to the spots of interest. Side benefit: You get a little more familiar with Seoul. |

You've pretty much "done" seoul by the sound of it. SOmetimes there are exhibits worth checking out at COEX. There is also the War Memorial Museum or whatever it is called somewhat close to Yongsan. |

The palaces are a must see....I think I went to almost all of them and loved it. The changing of the guard at Gyeongbuk is awesome.
Namdaemun and Dongdamun markets...amazing. It is good fun to barter for your stuff.
Seoul Tower, while a bit pricey is still quite a good day trip. It is a great view and I got some awesome pics.
The War Memorial Museum is worth a visit too.
Insa-Dong, great, although pricey is a great place for shopping, people-watching and having a good meal.
The National Museum...a bit boring, but very comprehensive. The Folk Museum was pretty decent as well.
And of course, you must see Itaewon, if only for the novelty. There are some good ethnic restaurants there and you can stock up on English books as well.
As you can tell, I went to Seoul on Saturday a lot!
As for Sunday, check out Yeoido Full Gospel Church...it is the biggest Church in the world and quite the spectacle. |

Mountains are around Seoul are worth doing, but you'll probably want to wait until the fall. I'd definitely recommend Namhansan along with all the other usual suspects.
Lotte Folk Museum is worth seeing once even though everything in it is a replica.
Olympic Park (not Olympic complex) can be good for an hour's stroll or two (or longer if something is going on there).
Have you been out to Songdo? Tried the Kyongbukkung kalbi restaurant there? The Inchon landing memorial? Wolmido? Chayu park? Shimpodong and Chinatown? Yeah Inchon's a bit of a hole, but it's your hole now, get to know it. |

If you haven'y been to the COEX then I recommend it simply for the futuristic look as one approaches stairs to go down to the outside court below. In the distance are some very tall skyscapers and before it an odd building with some sort of concentric ring on the front of it. (If someone knows the angle and impression I'm talking about, feel free to pipe in. It seems very 22nd century to me. Next time I'm gonna bring my camera to capture it. |

I thought it had moved somewhere this year? That's what it said in my Lonely Planet guidebook, though I should double-check. Or maybe I'm getting confused with another museum. Is the National Museum and National History Museum one and the same?
How about turning this thread into a sticky whereby posters will be able to contribute their opinions of the best places to visit in Seoul? |
