As with the last one, which was of a local beach,
the present avatar is of the East coast of Geoje island, off the southeast coast of the Korean peninsula.
It's not my fav, but it's a bit more colourful than others, to brighten up Dave's a bit.
Itaewonguy, I like your avatar a lot, but wouldn't it be better a bit smaller? |

Mine is just a picture of a kid screaming because I think it's funny. Rarr.

Mine is a pic of Sun (Yunjin Kim), the Korean hottie from that show Lost. Took me forever to find it, too. |
That's an awesome photo.

Stu, that is one very attractive woman. I hope that the more prudish people in this forum do not mind seeing the female body. It may be a little outside their comfort zone.
My avatar is a comment on censorship. |
Let me share something with you. I was browsing Dave's at my school the other day and a couple elementary students were looking over my shoulder, as they usually are when I'm using the Internet. I scroll down, and what should appear but rapier's avatar. Granted, it's a modest pic by most of our standards, but to my young Korean students, it was damn near pornography. They flipped out and started maknig a ruckus over it. I can't even imagine if they would've seen your previous avatar.
I started a thread here at Dave's under the Job forum where I related a story that involved me, a Maxim magazine, and illusions that I'd brought pornography to school. It's not that we are prudes, it's just that we don't want prudish Koreans who happen to pass by or look over our shoulders to think we're perverts (any more than they already do). Ya know?
Is your current avatar's statement about censorship in reaction to this issue?

I use the computers at the library in town (WA state) and they have these privacy hoods over the monitor, which is set under a glass plate in the desk, and still these damn kids keep looking over my shoulder...I tell them, "Leave me alone, this is an important forum for educated and well-travelled people...I'm a professional for chrissakes... "
I wonder what it is that's wrong with this younger generation, they appear to have no gumption. In the old days we had to go out and scrounge discarded titty mags from construction sites...
....
My avatar is Ken Kesey, the guy who wrote "Demon Box" among other things. He died awhile back. I never got to meet him. My previous avatar was the correspondent Ernie Pyle, pic taken shortly before a Japanese sniper ended his writing career. I used Kesey's pic because Pyle's worried look eventually got to me and I thought Ken was smirking...but the more I see it I think Kesey's expression also reflects some grim contemplation of impending mortality...it might be time for a change... |

the avatar is Bettie Page- a pinup girl from the early 50's who sort of developed a cult following. Something just grabbed me about the juxtaposition of the girl next door smile and the whip. |

Mine is a Picasso, Massacre in Korea. Apparently, he painted it in protest of the large numbers of Korean civilians who were being killed during the Korean War.
I am really interested in the history of the Korean War and the events and situations surrounding it. I find it quite powerful... |

Mine comes from my buddy's website www.ragingdonkey.com. I use it to help promote his page (which is long in need of an update but still funny nonetheless) and because I think the donkey with boxing gloves is cool . |

As I recall Picasso painted that as a protest against American forces killing civilians in the Korean War. He didn't have anything bad to say about the North Koreans; them being good communists and all. |
