Oh, Morrowind. Best game I ever played. And replayed, and replayed.
"I'm very partial to robot arena, aren't you?"
"Move along, enwar." |

Honestly, no, I haven't. Why? Is it somehow different from the others in some way?
For me, an RPG with real-time combat would be fun, and preferrably in the first or third-person, but I really don't dig on the wide overview thing like Starcraft or warcraft.
One game I played a long time ago was Planescape's "Torment"....a very trippy game and certainly well done. Although it did have some of the aforementioned 'cons', it was new at the time and therefore I wasn't tired of it yet! |

The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind is an RPG with real-time combat that's fun, can be played in first or third-person perspective, and doesn't do the wide overview thing like Starcraft or Warcraft. You get to stab, hack, and shoot people (with knives, swords, axes, clubs, spells, bows, and crossbows). You can pickpocket people, pick locks, take stuff from the environment and place stuff in the environment, run, jump, swim, sneak around, levitate, etc., as well as interact with NPCs. Monsters will turn around and attack you if you get close enough and are detected by them. Sometimes you won't even notice that they're around until they're right behind or on top of you. It's quite an immersive experience. It's fun on the XBox, but you can do a whole lot more with it on the PC (set hotkeys for spells, equipment, and whatnot, as an example). Do give it a try. It's at least a couple years old, but hasn't passed into nostalgia yet. You'll need a modern video card (Radeon 7500) to play it, at least.
Have you also tried Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines?
I agree with you that most RPGs are lame. I did find KOTOR fun, but I found Morrowind to be something that I continually return to. I still haven't explored most of the gamescape, and there are seemingly hundreds of quests that I have yet to accomplish, so I find it to be a lot more involved than both FPSs and turn-based RPGs. |
