I have noticed that a minority of posters seem to take a dim view of the Western world. There is nothing inherently wrong with finding faults with any culture - we are all guilty of it, so long as we are ultimately constructive or specific.

Most people in the world tend to be biased in favour of their own culture; while others fixate upon another because of its "exotic difference" (A Western traveller in the Third World) or prevalence and success (a Korean wearing a Mickey Mouse T-shirt).

Maybe we should simply be honest about being biased.

(BTW, I'm conveniently using "The West" as a catch-all term to describe a multitude of nations, and I'm aware that this may simplify things a bit too conveniently).

To voters: Keep in mind that the 2nd option says "least worst".

Also, saying that you have no bias is a bit like saying you don't m@$turb@te. Laughing

Everyone has a bias. At the same time no culture is perfect and they all have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Nowhere is perfect.

I prefer western culture, but whenever I go on a cultural rant it's about the fucking west.

I prefer the West over the East any day, but pre-Hispanic Andean culture was something else.

If you extended the choice to cover historical cultures, I'd choose the Andes, particuarly Murra's reconstruction of it.

The problem with your question... as I see it, is that there are really *two* Wests. The European West and the American West are very different, even if they are not so different in the macro sense, there are many micro differences.

I don't know which to choose. If I were to look at it from a UK/European point of view, I'd have chosen option 2. If it's the American West.. then my answer will differ....

So... can you define your version of *west*, please?

absolutely brilliant. the man goes so far out of his way to keep this from turning into a my-country-is-better-than-your-country p1ssing contest by lumping us all together in a comparison to 'the east', and you've managed to thwart him in eight posts. forks or sticks, love.

Technically, most of Australia and all of New Zealand are east of Korea.

I'd go for a slight bias towards the west. Even though I bitch about home more than I whinge about Korea, I still know where I'm going to spend most of my life when the time comes to settle down.

We have conquered the air, the sea, outer space.

We have split the atom.

We have unlocked the secret of DNA.

The list goes on.

But Koreans think they are superior because of their "pure blood".

This is an interesting poll.

The more people think the "West" is better than others, the better chance to catch you up and surpass eventually. Cool

By the way, have anyone seen "Crash" the movie? It was a good one.

For a man, I don't know if it really matters. But you ask the women and see what they say. Do they want to come from an Arab culture? An Asian one? An African one? I don't think there's any doubt that Western culture treats their women the best. And maybe that's why it is, without a doubt, the best one.
