My doctor calls patients over a loudspeaker. Everyone else gets a but I'm only a . What's up with that? |

That's interesting. I was at a clinic on Saturday and they've always called me ' ~ ' there.
Sorry can't answer your question... |

Doesn't usually follow a title, such as or , whereas usually follows a person's name? Then again, it does seem unlikely they would call people by title at a doctor's office.
At least they didn't call you ܱ. |

Or even worse, ܱ. Walked past a group of 20-something fools this evening talking amongst themselves ', ̴ܱ' then progressing to screech 'hi, hi, hi'.
The girl at Baskin Robbins the other day referred to me as մ (guest) which I quite liked.
I hear ܱ sometimes when at stores which I don't mind and find quite amusing. I always feel like going up to the counter and saying, 'Hello, yes, thank you. I'm Mr. ܱ' ~ 'ϼ, , մϴ. ܱԴϴ.'

Sigh...in Walmart yesterday a table of eleven-year-olds were shouting every random English word they knew (not very many for that matter) at me. I walked up to the loudest and smacked him upside the head. Funny thing was, though lots of people saw it, no one really looked surprised or seemed to indicate they thought I shouldn't have done it.
Wish I'd done it a little harder, in retrospect... |

Reminds me of that Dave Chappelle movie (can't remember the name but it's the one with Jim Bruer):
[guy in a lab coat]: "Er, excuse me janitor, could you come here for a second?"
[DC]:"Hiya scientist, what's up?"
[Gialc]:"Well janitor could you do me a favour and take this prescription down to the second floor, get if filled and bring it back to me ASAP? It's very important."
[DC]: Sure scientist, [hands him a mop] just mop this *beep* up while I'm gone."

And when the day comes that your child acts like a jackass you'll condone that sort of behaviour from another adult? |

My girlfriend said that some people think using sounds unusual with a foreign name. It could be my girlfriend's apologetical excuse, but she isn't much of an apologist, so it seems pretty valid to me... |

I went to a different hospital today. Interestingly, the X-Ray guy called out to me using "[Family Name] [First Name] -" but 5 minutes later the blood test woman called me ""[Family Name] [First Name] -".
Maybe it was because the X-Ray guy had just been told I was a foreigner, and the blood test woman didn't realize? When written in Korean, my name fits nicely into the 3 part name most Koreans have, so maybe that's why I'm usually addressed as ~? |

omg, you have to tell me your blood type! To quote one of my student's notepad: "I'm very interested in your blood type." |

Wow! If I ever saw anyone smacking my kid for whatever reason, I'd probably lose it. |

Indeed! In fact, if my kid starts yelling "ching chong chao" at some Asian at some point, I'd probably smack her upside the head myself. |
