Hari, don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to make you say 'uncle' or anything. I'm just saying that in the spirit of your good intentions about more regulation of the industry, putting up a link to where people on here can go buy fake degrees was a little absent-minded, regardless of what color of redemption wax you try glossing over it.

If you take a look at this site...even they require the students written consent before releasing any info! Privacy issues.

Wouldn't submitting your degree to immigration imply consent? Just add a written consent for verification to the paperwork a prospective teacher needs to fill out.

I had my degree notarized last month, then sent the notarized copy, original degree and sealed transcripts to the Korean Consulate. They stamped my notarized copy, making it 'official', and returned it to me as well as my transcripts which were unopened. Seems like a lot of paper work for nothing.

Forgive me, but wasn't there a quizillion page long thread on how immigration now requires sealed, stamped, laminated, notarized, DNA-embedded copies of your transcripts prior to visa issuance instead of notarized copies from the U.S. consulate? What happened to that brainfart? Did it fizzle out when they realized all this would require actual labor?

Notaries in the UK are also used to declare that a copy of something is in fact a fair copy of it and not been altered in any way...................... This gives a copy of a document a similar legal status as the orginial I figure they can do that in the US, but then again everyone knows as with all things the Britisih ones are best.................. :p

I usually get "notaries", a nominated Justice of the Peace, to sight, stamp, verify quals(for free). This translates in meaning that they have seen the originals(they sign and stamp the copies) and that they consider the original parchment/s in their professional opinion, to be authentic.

Sidestepping all the other issues above, I am once again up for a visa myself now.

I've been living and working here in SoKo for the better part of 8 years. My original paperwork was done in the Korean Consulate office in Houston, and then filed with Immigration offices in both Masan & Fukuoka.

After moving to Seoul, and having 2 different jobs here ( a total of 3 in 8 years), add in full blown sets to Osaka & various Seoul-area offices.

They still wanted EVERYTHING for this new job & Visa - original diploma, resume, sealed transcrips, recc letters/references, etc. Even though I had worked for this company previously!

Knowing that there are copies of my transcripts in the files, here, there, & everywhere, was it OK?

no.

Would copies I had - official, notarized ones - do, then?

no.

Which entailed me contacting my school in Texas, and having a sealed set FedExed here over the weekend, which are even now being processed.

I would hazard the guess that, yet once again, it depends entirely upon which office, what the unofficial connections are, and what kind of mood everyone involved in the process is in.

/shrug

Best of luck to anyone having to go through this - be it vets or first-timers.

Regards,

G.
