Well looks like it's going to be my home some day, the good lord willing. Question is where. Maybe some of you Aussies or anyone else who's spent an appreciable amount of time down there could point me in the right direction? |

Well, I haven't lived in Aussie, but I have spent time in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Medowie and a few places in between.
Melbourne is a terrific city! Or if you prefer something a little smaller and close to the beach, Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast is also a great place. They were my 2 faves. |

I lived for two years in Sydney, fantastic place and highly recommended. I also love Melbourne and were I to move back to Aussie that is probably where I would go. |

Have to second Brisbane, close to two amazing coasts, great vibrant city with a good nightlife, smaller city so less traffic but not lacking in anything that the big cities have, great climate NO winter.
Cheaper than the other main cities in OZ.
Good lifestyle, outdoor dining everywhere, less crime than SYD, MEL |

Melburn.... great culture, sport, lifestyle... really multicultural.
Some of the best restaurants, clubs and coffee shops in OZ. The best sporting events, best theatre, loads and loads of parks. Not alot of crime, great live music scene.
plus its been voted the most livable city in the world multiple times |

Perth,......west is best. 2 hours flight from Bali. Best beaches and Ningaloo Reef which is way better than Great barrier. It also has the title of the most isolated city in the world. At one time (in the 80's) it had more millionaires per head of population than any where else in the world. |

Perth is sooooo far away though from the rest of OZ, its cheaper to fly to Bali than it is to Sydney. |

definitely brisbane - for all the above reasons... and also because it is full of trees. yu look out yr window in brisbane and yu see trees trees trees...
if yu like the tropics, and don't mind isolation - consider darwin - the climate is great and it is the most asian city in australia
canberra is also worth a look. very interesting culturally - lots of music, no industry, close to sydney. a bit cold though. |

Just curious, but where is the best place to hook up with some herb in Australia. I here in some provinces/states? its basically legal.
Planning on travelling there for about 6-8 months in the future. Thanks in advance. |

Thanks for the tips all (and keep em coming)--looks like the big coastal capital cities are the go. Noone's mentioned Alice Springs, the Cape York Peninsula, the Kimberly, the Nullarbor Plain, or Tasmania...go figure. |
