I'm about to sign the contract and am confused about these two points:

Article 10 (Renewal) ① The Term of Employment stated in Article 5 hereof may be renewed by the mutual written agreement between Employer and Employee, provided that each renewed employment term does not exceed one (1) year.
② In the case of renewal of this Contract pursuant to the foregoing ①, Employee shall be given two weeks for a home leave which shall take place 2 calendar weeks prior to the contract end date specified in Article 5 hereof until the day immediately preceding the commencement of the renewed term. This two week home leave will be counted as part of the contract term, and accordingly salary will be paid.
③ In the event that the employee travels to his/her home country pursuant to the foregoing ②, Employee's round trip airfare shall be reimbursed by Employer after Employee's return to Korea. The round trip airfare for Employee's flight shall be based on rate provided for in Article 11 ① hereafter.

Is this standard? What I'm reading this as is if I renew, instead of them buying me a one way ticket home and then the ticket to return, I'm supposed to pay out of pocket for my round trip airfare for renewing? So, if I did renew and decided to take another job or stay home, I lose the one way ticket home I was entitled to for completing the initial one year contract?

Definately confused me. Have you tried the EFL Law people? They might be able to help.

I'll go there, thanks. I mean, the chances of me wanting to stay in one place for two years is quite small, but still...what if I liked it and wanted to stay? I don't want to get screwed over for that loyalty.

Gyonngi contract, eh?

My contract has that, too.

We had a conflict over that, because they had a camp right during the time I was supposed to, by contract, go home for vacation.

I had gone home just before that contract period, and they weren't going to pay me money for my ticket going home between contracts. When I pointed out that I COULDN'T go home when the contract stated, because I had to teach their camp, they wavered a bit until I pushed the issue and became a little angry.

I got paid.

Seems pretty standard. You buy a roundtrip ticket and when you get back, they reimburse you. Hard on your pocket (albeit temporarily.) I would change it to them paying half of the round-trip ticket up front and half when you return.

The last part, about the rate of reimbursement, sounds funny but it refers to Article 11 and you didn't post it. It might be okay, but the standard for reimbursement should just be how much the ticket cost!

The part that is in bold sucks:
One should have already taken their 2 weeks before the end of the contract making the above mentioned (in bold) an extra 2 week vacation.
What would happen here?
You take your 2 week vacation somewhere in the middle of your contract, and when asked to come back you say yes and expect 2 weeks as per contract.
Well, your boss could say no and point to the contract, after which an argument ensues with you saying how unfair that is, and your boss saying that it's in the contract and you agreed to it when you signed.

I would get that changed so the when you sign a new contract you get those 2 weeks on top of you regular 2 weeks; tell your boss that he/ she could look at it as a signing bonus.

This is an English Village and the contract states EPIK though I've never applied for EPIK. It's through a Board of Education. It's different from yours, right?
