Great post, Eamo.
For a past gig it would be a toss-up between The Beatles in Hamburg circa 1960, or the Chili Peppers with Hillel Slovak and Jack Irons.
For one that could realistically be achieved, John Frusciante solo on an acoustic guitar in a tiny club. |

They Might Be Giants.
With impromptu conga line and puppets (including Homestar), thank you.
And yes, I am now accepting applications to my Harem O' Nerds. |

Bruce Springsteen has done some great shows. On 4th of July I made my Korean highschool students watch the "Born In the USA" track from his greatest hits DVD, and gave out sparklers ... |

Changing my answer to Genesis performing the entire Lamb Lies Down on Broadway with Peter Gabriel before he splits.
'concert enhancers' would have to be found. |

Application accepted! But no speaking Klingon will be tolerated.
I saw TMBG on their Apollo 18 tour at Le Spectrum in Montreal (If I were president of the world I would make the baritone sax a compulsory instrument for all groups, right up to and including string quartets). |

Brilliant. They haven't come to Canada in ages. Usually I keep my eye out for their visits to the nearest state, and then make the eight hour drive.
Re: the Klingon. No, it's not THAT sort of nerd-harem. But I'm the one accepting the applications, buster. |

I'd love to see/hear what hendrix would have done if he'd lived a lot longer. Shame his life was so short. I wonder a lot about how his music would have evolved.
Hendrix...Zappa...early Grateful Dead.
The Mars Volta, Sigur Ros, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Frusciante, Nick Cave. |

Hey, it's too hot to sleep so I'll post again for the hell of it... In my (admittedly sometimes warped) way of thinking, the real reason that Jimi Hendrix's life was cut short is because on the "Axis Bold As Love" album cover he offensively superimposed his ugly mug on the "Universal Form" of God ( Vishnu). When it was shown to my guru he gravely remarked that "This boy will die soon..." I think a similar fate may have befallen Jim Morrison who was doing some really demonic things near the end like drinking the blood of aborted fetuses and obnoxiously proclaiming on a song - "YOU CAN'T PETITION THE LORD WITH PRAYER!" Even John Lennon, who had previously experienced ecstatic transcendental highs chanting the Hare Krishna mantra with Beatle pal George Harrison offended God (due to Yoko's bad influence) with the "...I don't believe in Gita!" line from "Gimmie Some Truth." I don't think that God lets any public challenge go unanswered: When they launched the Titanic it was proudly declared that "...even God couldn't sink this ship!" (Sorry, I got so far off topic...but someone referred to Hendrix dying young so I stretched the thread ... a lot - hope I didn't break it.) |

I'd like to have seen Johnny Cash back in the sixties, perhaps one of the prison concerts he recorded.
My grandfather - in a story I've heard more than once - tells of a time he drove to Des Moines back in the fifties to see Johnny Cash. The opening act was some loud guy whose obnoxious piano playing made most of the crowd head outside for a drink while they waited for Johnny Cash. It was Jerry Lee Lewis, and apparently there weren't very many folks left in the place when he set his piano on fire. Iowa, evidently, just wasn't ready for the guy. |

Bruce Springsteen, not during his Asbury Park years but while touring with the Born in the U.S.A. album. Courteney Cox is still hot in that video! Plus the E Street Band were phenomenol back then and still are. So cool how he ended up marrying Patti Scialfa, his percussionist.
Ray Charles, for obvious reasons.
Elvis, during the 70's. |
