Love the lamb lies down on broadway but why do you consider it a rock opera. Its only got one character doing the singing. I would consider it a concept album over anything else.
maybe that could be a new poll, best concept album of all time. |
It has a multi-song narrative, has multiple characters (Rael, Brother John, Raven, Lamia, Anesththetist[sp], Lillith, Slippermen), it has tragedy, and um, if that's not good enough I'll have to fall back on my previous post, which states that I got the idea for this thread from a Wikipedia entry and they have it listed. It also lists Hedwig, Joe's Garage (but misses 200 motels), Godspell, Evita...
So sure, there is lot of room for debate over definitions and semantics. I don't have a definitive answer but I enjoy the discussion.
Maybe it's like that statement some politician in the US made about obscenity laws, something like "I can't always describe it, but I know when I see it". Or in this case, hear it? Watch it?
Obviously not all concept albums are rock operas, but are all rock operas concept albums? |

never got much into the second cd of the lamb lies down. but love the first one. Still there are a few weak moments so I can't vote for it. |

I love the music, but of course it was meant to be performed live, with Peter Gabriel acting it out in his crazy costumes. Now that I think about it THIS is the concert I'd like to see! |
