Day 5 of the stirke and here are a few demands the pilots want...
remember now..these pilots make around a hundred grand U.S. a year.
"Pilots expressed a willingness to drop demands which came under heavy public criticism during yesterday's meeting, including the abolition of mandatory English ability tests and alcohol level tests before flying, and new golf equipment to use while they stay overseas. "
How ignorant can they be!?!?!
They are already lucky enough to be pilots....have great working hours...money...can fly 1st class to any place they want, hotel rooms for free, food, etc..
Pretty ungrateful I say! |

Their Union is giving these guys some horrible advice. Most of the unions on Korea have been a huge detriment to the economy. If the country wants to succeed in the future, getting rid of the current union leadership (and their mentality) along with the chaebol should be the first things on their agenda. |

Well, there's a way to make your customers have confidence in you. Why not say in the national media that you'd also like to smoke up during flights and demand a private room for yourself and hot stewardesses?
Reagan fired all of the air traffic controllers when they went on strike. Quantas fired all of their pilots when they demanded too much. It would be interesting if Korean Airlines grew some and did the same.

That would have been a very cool thing on U.S.-based airlines in the 1960s through the 1970s. I would have paid extra for that, had I been a alive and flying then. But, damn, the stewardii (radius = radii; stewardess = stewardii? -- hell, I don't know) these days are broomhildas, and have bad attitudes, too.
Still, in theory, what's necessarily wrong with this idea?
Wouldn't you like to have a private room for yourself and hot stewardii, especially on long flights? I mean, if you could negotiate that into your contact, why not? I'd support that. In fact, with any luck, I'll be dreaming about it tonight... |

Unfortunately, this is true. There is something to be said for having sexist rules that stewardii have to retire at 35, max. |

I met a few of the American pilots while skiing this winter in Whistler and I couldn't believe the cutbacks they were experiencing. The guys I met felt lucky just to have a job, even at half or 2/3 of their previous salary.
What are the Koreans doing? They already have a sweet deal going on. |

And that 100k is in Korea, which still has a per capita income of under 20K and low-ish cost of living (if you're making 100K and you'd prefer to live out near Incheon airport!). The Korea Times had something about the "noble union of pilots" and I thought that was spot on. I hope Asiana is hiring furiously (in NA, if the Whistler story is right) and breaks this strike. |

So you guys are equating flight attendants (stewardesses being the old-fashioned term) with room salon hostesses? Great attitude towards women there, bud. Broomhildas? What airline are you flying these days? Most of the world's airlines still hire flight attendants based on their looks. You could have a great personalilty and speak 3 languages, but if you're ugly, you sure won't be getting a job with Korean Air or Asiana. I know that if I'm on an airplane and have a medical emergency, I'd rather be on an American carrier than a plane full of models. |

Ha... not American-based airlines like Northwest.... EEeeew!
He was spot on.
But I could care less about eye-candy when I'm saving $300 on my flight. |

I wish these oh-so-patriotic Korean pilots the best of luck competing with Nippon, JAL, Singapore Airlines and Qantas.
I know who I'd rather fly with on my Asian holiday.
Hub of Asia indeed. |

I hope you don't mean this American carrier?
I guess if you crashed into a large body of water, you could cling to this flight attendant for buoyancy.

Wait, I'm just checking to see if I understand...
They want to not have their BAC checked before a flight? As a privacy issue, or to make it okay to drink before a flight??!? Huh?
And they want to not have to pass an English proficiency test? Because all those air towers in Japan, Thailand, and the US give approach information in Korean, right?
These negotiation points are terrifying!!! Do you think they will win them? |
