that book is just wrong!!!!
there is no need to write a book stating its ok for daughters to touch there daddy's penises.. WTF!
I think books like "where did I come from"?
or IM getting a baby brother brother is much better for them..
that book is sick.. |

I hear the popular sequel to that book in the OP is "Can I Touch that Thing Between Daddy's Legs Again?"
Future titles in the same series include:
"Can You Keep a Secret?"
"Ouch! It Hurts -- Bad!"
and "Driver! Severance Hospital Emergency Ward, On the Double!"
No, Sliver, I wouldn't want a child of mine learning about sex & sexuality from that book. |

Only a truly sick mind could come up with sequels |

I agree. This topic is totally unsuitable for a child's Easy Reader.
Where do these people get their ideas from?
When I was little we had Mrs Red Hat and Mr Yellow Hat books. |

Ewwwwww. I'd love to see what kind of lynch mob would materialize if that little gem crossed a threshhold in a Canadian school.
I can't see how that would be acceptable in Korean culture either, despite the weiner-tweaking that infant boys undergo. |

That is a bad bad naughty book that you dug up there Sliver. It's like some kind of terrible literature that you would find in some kind of freaky fetish shop back home. But, to get to the real point here, your translation was terrible. |

Narae regretted what she said. What if Daddy got angry? Maybe he would get rid of her like the dirty water down the drain.

Dad laughed loudly. Gee wiz what words!!

Narae laughed strangely

Its soft like when I touch Mommys breast. THANK GOD
Its not that there is anything particularly wrong with this but I find it a strange story to find in a book for 8 year olds and I wonder how parents back in the PC correct doldrums of the West would react if this was given to school age children?
Rest assured the book did say at the end of the story.
ʵ ó ƺ Բ .
Try to have a bath with mommy and daddy tonight like Narae did.
I just hope mummys home |
Maybe they're trying to teach something about gender roles or identity or something? Maybe they're just trying to encourage the dirty little buggers to take a bath? |

Can you elaborate on this? I've heard hushed comments about this on this board but I honestly don't know what this is about.... |

That book is plain wrong.
I still have a hard time with kids running around naked in my Kindy. |

I've never seen this happen, but what I'm told is that it's okay for people to exclaim over the size of a baby's "gochu", including pointing and tugging. |

Obviously kids are curious and when they see there mummy or daddy in the nude they will ask "whats that?".
This is within the boundries of parenthood, and it should be kept there not turned into a lesson at school therefore replacing the natural curiosity of a toddler in the moment for a homework assignment. |

Does anyone have a book of idioms entitled "How Koreans Talk," or something to that effect? I don't have the book at hand so I can't offer a proper quote here, but if you have it, take a look. There's an expression in there, used toward young boys by older relatives, that translates as "my boy, let me see your balls." ('Tis a shame I never heard that line on spring break in South Padre.)
And, as an aside, a female Korean friend also told me that it is common for Korean males - even up into their adult years - to touch their mother's breast, as a sign of their love.
As for the book in question, I do think it's inappropriate for, well, it's just inappropriate. Now, I realize that kids often bathe with a parent of the opposite gender up to a certian age and with that might come a question or two. But 'scratch-n-sniff' goes too far. So let's just say you're the father in that book. Rewrite his answer to his daughter's request to touch 'it.'
"You'll be bathing with your mother from now on." |
