Sorry, been here too long. My ARC's a mess. schwa, you would be definitely right for first-year people anyway - only address on the front. I've had too many additions of names and extensions that I hardly look at the front anymore. Embarassed The old ARCs used to have an "occupation" section where your workplace was put.

But my records are current & legitimate. I do everything by the book according to my immigration office's instructions. The fact that there is nothing in my passport or on my ARC to state what I'm doing or where doesnt concern me -- my file is in order.

In the above case, it sounds like an epik employee has been assigned to work in some kind of epik-sponsored camp. No problem.

If he was the employee of a private school, or if the camp was privately run, different issue.

Seems a lot of you are giving up major chunks of your vacation to work at these camps. And that's despite what CrazyLemonGirl says is a thoroughly loathesome experience, a sentiment many seem to agree with. Plus the thankless trips to Immigration (in such lovely weather for running errands on the other side of the city, I know -- I've been out & about today), which CLG didn't even mention in her thread. Getting Korean government approval and doing it legally seems a snap, an infernal nuisance, or not even worth the pain, varying from poster to poster.

My camp is within my school and I don't get paid extra for it. Basically it's a time killer because the powers that be don't me having too much vacation time.

So I sit here, the Voice of Ignorance, reading these posts and wondering, Why? "For the money" is what I expect I'll hear. But if money were all-important, then why all the biatching? If money were all-important, why not teach every single day of your vacation? Then what I expect to hear is, "Obviously we need some days of vacation, but these camps are only a few weeks long and the money is good". Okay then, I'll ask again: "Why all the biatching?" What is compelling you to put yourselves through this?

Wasn't really trying to sound like I was biatching. If I came across as doing so, sorry. I'm asking these questions because it's the first time I've worked for the public school system and I like to know what's important or what may or may not affect me. Even though I looked into the EPIK programme in '98 I chose not to go with them at that time because I didn't think they were offering enough $ with the experience I had and did a uni gig instead. I'm doing this summer camp because I was between jobs in March and my wife and I are in the process of paying for a new home, so, yes, I do need the extra cash. It only takes one week off of my vacation time. This is a three-week summer camp. The other one, at my regular school, is a two-week mandatory one. I'm not complaining about either of them. Not much anyway... Wink *edit* And, I had to go through the visa process as my situation is different than the typical EPIK teacher. I'm currently on an F-2 and would prefer to not be deported, fined, or whatever. I'm hired by one school, not the regional education office.

That's part of the reason why I was a little confused. The camp's being held at a private uni. However, the head of the goo's educational office has been around, so I guess this is where the education department chose to hold the thing? Who knows? Guess I'll just shut my mouth, go with the flow, watch my own back, and not worry about anyone else's.

Well then, at least you skipped the farting around with Immigration and getting approval. That's got to count for something. Having no choice but to work a summer camp during your vacation doesn't sound very nice, but I suppose we all pick our own poison, and you knew it when you signed up. I'd say your allowed to biatch all you like. It's the ones who don't have to teach at summer camp, don't have to go through Immigration/Visa paper chase, and yet they still biatch... Why?
