Radical prediction: the Nets will not make the playoffs next season. There's going to be a lot of time spent on the IL between 'Reef, Jefferson, VC and Kidd. Plus their bench still sucks, and they haven't addressed their most important need, a decent center. I know, "there are no decent centers"; but even a Danny Fortson or an Adonal Foyle would make a big difference. Sorry, Gonad Krstic isn't going to wow anyone next year. He's like Darko with playing time.

Well, if they don't make the playoffs then Portland doesn't get the draft pick (from the SAR sign and trade) for at least another year. Doubt PDX keeps it anyway. Nash will probably just package it out in another trade, perhaps with Van Exel's contract.
Any thoughts on Bonzi Wells going to the Kings? I think the Kings and Jazz are getting burned in this deal. As I read it, the teams get:
Kings: Bonzi Wells
Jazz: Greg Ostertag
Grizzlies: Bobby Jackson, Curtis Borchardt, Raul Lopez, Kirk Snyder
So the Grizzlies are getting all that, just for Bonzi Well, who's coming off his worst season in years? Seems to me that Bobby Jackson would be plenty. Granted, Snyder hasn't shown anything and I suppose Utah's trying to clear bench space, but goodness that's giving up a lot of bodies for a headache like Wells. |
The KIngs are the BIG losers in this deal.
Wells is a headcase, he will kill team chemistry in SAc-town. B-Jax and Ostertag both new their roles on the team. Bonzi still thinks he's the man.
Memphis wins: pretty obvious. Give up a headcase, get a good player and some youth.
Utah wins: addition by subtraction. Ostertag will be brought in to give Mehmet a breather and help tutor their young C in Whaley. Borchardt is horrible (too many injuries), Snyder doesnt fit in with Utah (physically gifted, but no b-ball IQ) and has been seriously outplayed in SL by CJ Miles and Olu Famutimi, and Lopez is going to sign a deal in Europe.
Also, Marshall is a good fit in Clev. They lost out on Redd, but got the shooter they need. He will open up the floor and will let Hughes and Bron slash, while lettin Z operate in the paint. Yell will also board and block some shots.
Nate-Rob is a fine player ( my sleeper for the dunk contest). Anyone find it funny that a 5"7" point guard drafted in the 20's can outrebound their 6"11" center drafted lottery in Frye? |
