I have no clue which is the most beautiful country because as one poster said there are so many beautiful countries.

Beautiful but barren.
It would have been amazing to experience the quietness
and lack of movement.
A boggling idea.

I'm not making a stab against you, but as a proud kiwi I must ask, how is NZ barren??? NZ is lush, green and beautiful!

Also NZ has native bats, lizards, seals, whales and dolphins, fish and sea life, frogs, insects and yes, many birds. The moa was was a biggie, but that's been extinct for a while now.

I'll add a pic when I figure out how!!

My point was about the lack of animals and how early migrants starved. I listened to a Kiwi describe how the islands of New Zealand had NO animals on them until people brought them over, and that early settlers had a lot of trouble finding enough food because there were no native species of animals on land and had to turn to the ocean for a chance to survive.

As a Canadian whose country's history as well as present is chocked full of animals, so many animals, that the prospects of starving only came from having no hunting ability. The thought of discovering a beautiful land with no animals is amazing to me, it'd seem beautiful yet barren, as I've stated, in terms of animals as sources of food. I've always imagined tropical exotic lands to have as many or more animals as my home country, teeming with life. It was just amazing to think one has arrived in paradise only to discover that no one nor living animal existed there!

Anyways, hope the point is clear.

Really? I guess they were not considered animals and certainly not of enough sustenance to survive on.

Here, I just did a quick google search and found the basis of the account I was told:
Quote:
Apart from bats and marine mammals (such as seals), New Zealand has no native mammals!

http://www.doc.govt.nz/Conservation/001~Plants-and-Animals/001~Native-Animals/index.asp

That would seem barren for early peoples coming from Indonesia, Africa, the Americas, etc.

No need to worry. You've got plenty of sheep now. Wink

barren?

No.

check this little beasty:

I think this would provide enough sustinance for about a year if you managed to catch and kill one

a native bird of new zealand that was hunted to extinction by the maori. They would have gotten a few good feeds off of them no doubt

and check this:

made extinct because the moa was made extinct. Its source of food was the moa. The last one in existance was shot dead by an early european settler. Imagine how massive this thing would be.

It was always known as the beautiful land. Rhodesia. Zimbabwe.

I don't know how you guys can be proud of coming from countries without Lions, elephants, teeming wildlife, and simple, happy, spontaneous people whose only concern was to share some boerewoers and a beer.
You are deprived.

Why does our country have to have specific animals for us to be proud? I love my country. I am proud of NZ.

Our poverty is nowhere near as bad as other countries. We do not have high crime rates, or a hig insidence of diseases. We do not have poisonous animals (except for maybe 2 or 3 spiders that have been brought over in the past few years). We do not have a huge population, and out cities are much smaller. We have clean air, beautiful scenery, and clean water!

There are no lions or elephants but I sure am proud.

You'd be a lot more proud if you were home to the king of beasts..and uncountable variety of beautiful animals. not just a little bird that can't fly. (Which i admit is charming in itself)- but you just can't compare most places to Africa. It has the biggest and the best, the most spectacular of everything.

Every country has ferns and waterfalls. I could make a waterfall in my back garden if you like. But if we're talking about waterfalls, Zimbabwe has the worlds biggest:

what is this thread about which country has the better animals??

if you think NZ is barren becuase we dont have bears or tigers running around then so be it! BIG DEAL!!

New Zealand has an abundance of wildlife! and I think people who ar esaying its barren or we dont have animals has never stepped foot outside of the airport!!
our wildlife is amazing from the SEA around us to the land!
we have animals which can not be found on any other country!
sure New Zealand didnt have much game until the settlers came!
we are an ISLAND!! canada is a joint country with USA and south america
the settlers didnt starve to death either! there was plenty of FISH available and greens for them to eat!

and frankly I like the fact new zealand doesnt have dnagerous animals!
it brings charm to our nature! where can feel free and unworried to hike our trials without walking into a snake or a bear thats gonna kill ya!
but dont try and think new zealand doesnt have amazing animals! becuase we do!

speaking of animals.. did anyone mention Australia!??
now there is a country with amazing animals too!!

Every country has ferns and waterfalls. I could make a waterfall in my back garden if you like. But if we're talking about waterfalls, Zimbabwe has the worlds biggest:

Firstly, the little bird that can't fly happens to have the largest egg relative to its size in the world.

Secondly Africa is not exactly a country is it. I'm not saying Zimbabwe isn't beautiful, but you can't sit there and tell me I can't be proud because NZ doesn't have the biggest most impressive features. This topic is about beautiful countries. That waterfall is impressive, but it isn't beautiful (in my opinion).

There are a lot of things I cauld say to demoralise Zimbabwe but I'm not going to because it has nothing to do with the beauty of the country itself. Besides you have every right to be proud of your country despite its downfalls (as do I), and I'm not going to badger that.
