Having lived a life of quiet financial desperation myself before coming to Korea, I can relate.

Within a quick time working in Korea though, it was like the clouds suddenly parted. After all your expenses for the month, theres still the better part of a grand in your bank account, & it keeps coming.

At the orientation you'll be reimbursed cash for your plane fare. (Do go with one-way, make sure you have an official receipt from your travel agent & hang on to your used ticket & boarding pass.) In addition they'll give you close to $300 cash resettlement money.

Is there no one in your circle of family or friends could front you a few hundred dollars to help you over your leap? I know, borrowing is odious, but its a one-shot deal & only for a month.

Poster's suggestion above to contact epik about your woes is definitely not a good idea. There is nothing they can do to help you outside the established guidelines.

This is probably true; they're helpful with some things but when it comes to anything apart from their 'guidlines' - like actually telling you what school you'd be working at - they're hopeless. I'll be sending them a pretty detailed letter of why I'm turning them down.

Don't bank on getting this immediately.
You won't be given it at orientation, but when you get to your designated place of work (and play Rolling Eyes ). But be warned: some people got theirs pronto, but we in Gyeonggi had to survive without it until our first payday.
Steph, I really hope you manage to get some extra cash up your sleeve before you come!
