Sad. I feel bad for the guy's family but also for the cops who pulled the trigger- I'm sure they thought if they didn't put the guy down immediately he'd set off a bomb in his bag.

Its unfortunate. but he should've stopped, when asked to do so by police.

I also think that the police could have simply arrested him when he tripped face down in the train, instead of shooting him by holding the gun right up to him.

Still...its been a stressful week for Londn police, i thiink its understandable given the pressure they've been under.

Ain't no excuse - da man wants to be a man, let him be shot like da man.

Hmmm...

Quote:
1: Witnesses report seeing up to 20 plain clothes police officers chase a man into Stockwell Tube station from the street

2: One person says the man vaulted the automatic ticket barriers as he made his way to the platforms

3: The most direct route is via this escalator or the staircase that sits alongside it

4: Police challenge the man but he apparently refuses to obey instructions and after running onto a northbound Northern line train, he is shot dead

Really dumb guy for running.

I fault those who scared him into believing that the police are his enemy. He would still be alive today if it weren't for them.

Or perhaps, he felt he had good reason to run. But he ran. That's the point here. And worse... he ran wearing a heavy coat in the middle of summer.

Really, really, dumb.

Derrek, what part of "plain-clothed police officers" do you not understand?

Really, really dumb indeed.

A terrible mistake, I'm quite upset about it really. But the guy was a bloody idiot for running away from armed police.

I'm sure the police were really nervous about the whole situation and given the current circumstances you can't blame them really. Another victim of terror and fear. I wouldn't run away from non armed police unless I was up to something really dodgy, to run away from armed police in any situation is a very stupid thing to do.

I think the poor Brazilian guy is up for a Darwin award.

In Brazil, if someone waving a gun shouting chases you, you run. maybe the guy didn't understand what they were saying, or that they were police.

i was talking to a guy about this today. He said that that area is around a real tough neighbourhood with a lot of gun crimes. Its also racialy mixed. He figures one or more of the plainclothes cops was black. the brazillian guy maybe knowing it was a tough place thought he was about to be mugged or worse so he panicked and ran. the Cops panic thinking the dude is a terrorist with a bomb shot the guy.

No matter what way it happened it was a tragic series of events. A sign to a city on the edge.

Mistakes happen. The guy should not have run.

Perhaps the police could have handled it differently, but they had no way of knowing. What if he did have a bomb?

I am actually quite surprised that the police admitted their mistake, if this had happened elsewhere, you can bet that they would have come up with some bogus "evidence" to connect the guy to the bombings. I am glad that the London police are honest enough to admit their mistake.

He probably had a kilo of weed in his jacket or something. A horrible thing happened, but the police did the right thing. The guy was running from them wearing very inappropriate clothes for the weather and hopped on the tube, they shot him.

Stupid bugger, to say he deserved it is a little harsh, but London is under attack from terrorists. My sympathy goes to his family.

rapier! The guy had been working in London as an electrician for a while, I'm sure his English was pretty good. They don't just randomly gun people down in the UK. He would have been warned several times before getting shot.

I heard that the pursuing cops were plain-clothed police. he might have thought they were just gangsters.

Tragic accident..but once again, quite understandable.

Stockwell is one of the most dangerous places in London - many, many dodgy characters about - I know, I spent a few summers around there. My guess is he did not know they were police, who apparently do not need to identify themselves. Whichever way you look at it, he was a victim of terror.
