I've had Deetah as a nickname since high school. It actually used to be "Deetah Dominatrix" back in the good old days. I'm a pretty vanilla person, so the nickname was like an antithesis to my actual personality. Call it my alter ego.

Deetah struck through my uni days and I am still called it by my good friends.

I'd rather see a "why the avatar?" thread, but we'd probably get too many "Because she's hot" replies.

I'm from the border region of BC and Alberta, two provinces known for the potency of a certain kind of plant, in which the effects of enjoying those plants have become wildly celebrated among the region's population. Back in the late 90's, a friend started a forum site that discussed the growth and enjoyment of the plants and similar popular forms of social vegetation, and we all chose appropriate usernames, befitting of the site's theme. That's where my handle originated and after lots of offline parties from that site's members, the name started to cement further in my online and offline identity. So I decided to just let it stick with me, when I began to branch off to other forum sites.

For the record, I've been off the chron for 3 years, but that will totally change when I decide on which beach hut, on which Koh in the southern seas of Thailand, that I plan to spend 3-4 months later next year. Cool

During a debate on Dave's a few years back, the other person (can't remember who) called me Mr. Literal. I loved it, so I re-registered under that name.

Literally.

I discovered the jewel that is Dave's while working in Guangzhou, China. Also, my first teaching job was in Wash Heights, NY and after a kid threatened to shoot me and I told the principal, he said to his assistant re me "He is young and gung ho."

So I guess I'm gungho in Guangzhou. Well, Ansan.

Time for me to call some other people out. Fess up, now, enquiring minds want to know. Badmojo's hitlist includes:

1. Peppermint
2. Billy Pilgrim
3. Corporal
4. Dogbert
5. Tomato
6. Rapier
7. Pollyplummer
8. FUBAR[/quote]

Polly Plummer is the first character to have entered Narnia in C.S. Lewis' book The Magicians Nephew. She and Digory Kirke were present at the creation of Narnia. The Chronicles of Narnia have been my favourite books since childhood.

Peter, Edmund, Lucy and one other girl.... Susan? I think I've read most of those Narnia books, but not since grade 5. I still remember what C.S. Lewis wrote in his dedication for one of those books, maybe for his granddaughter. Something like you'll like this book now, then you'll grow up and you'll lose interest in fairy tales, but you'll eventually come back and like it again. So true.

TO LUCY BARFIELD

My Dear Lucy,

I wrote this story for you, but when I began it I had not realised that girls grow quicker than books. As a result you are already too old for fairy tales, and by the time it is printed and bound you will be older still. But some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.
