First my basic specs:
P4 2.4C
512 megs ram
English XP
Registered and up to date AVG antivirus with firewall
The Problem:
This morning my computer crashed and now it won't boot up. I just bought a new Digital Camera and was comparing the picture quality to my old Camera. Plugged in my new camera and copied a picture to the hard-drive, then I plugged in my old camera and copied a picture to the hard-drive. Next I took another picture with my new camera, plugged it in and went to look at it. When I tried to open the picture my comp froze and nothing would work (including ctrl/alt/del). After a few minutes I shut it down and rebooted. I tried to look at the picture again and my computer froze again. This time when I tried to reboot my computer wouldn't boot up properly
Here's what's happening:
The power button for the cpu is on but and I think it sounds like it's booting up. However, my monitor displays the message "self test, check your pc and signal cable are working"
I have no idea what's happening or what I can do. I was thinking I'd try my comp with my neighbour's monitor but he's not home at the moment. There are no computer shops open in my neighbourhood today and I desperately need my computer for tomorrow. Ahhhh!!!!!!! |

1. Check the back of your computer and make sure the monitor cable is firmly plugged in.
If that doesn't work
2. Open the machine (power off, of course) and make sure your graphics card is firmly in the slot. |

| I've already done both....I opened it up and did a thorough check of everything. A bit of dust, but everything was in place. |

Buggered if I know then.
The message indicates that there's no signal getting to your monitor. The problem should be somewhere between the connection at the back of the monitor and the card. If there's no beep code and it's not one of those it's time to ask one of the big boys (like Demophobe). |

Well here's what's up....
I tested my monitor and cable on my neighbour's comp and everything worked fine. I then carefully took my neighbours video card (an older Geforce) and replaced my video card with it. My computer did the exact same thing with the monitor showing "signal blah blah blah". I have no idea what I should do now.... |

| Thanks for the help and thanks to the people that pm'd me. I did everything I could possibly think of but nothing worked. I took it into a shop this morning and it's my motherboard. The good thing is that it should still be covered under warranty. |
