For those who missed it, Dutchman was droning on and on (and on and on) here last year about this 'great book' that helped him quit so i finally decided to read it to shut him up but instead it worked. The book is "Allan Carr's Easy Way to Quit Smoking" and it's a horribly written book, but it actually DOES help you to quit smoking.
Maybe What The Book will have a used copy.
[The above is a recreated dramatization 'based on' actual events] |
I recommend http://www.whyquit.com. I found it more effective than Alan Carr's book, plus there are forums and stuff you can read for encouragement (irritatingly filled with irritatingly happy-clappy-joyful people ("I'll pray for you!" "You go girl!" "You're the best!!!"). Also the pictures from the young smokers who died bit are cool at putting you off.
There is a whole E-book you can download there as well for free.

Yeah, I smoke like a fiend in Korea. But then again, how else can I be self-destructive in a country that is scarce on real, uh, "hard", drugs?
Kicking stray cats gets tiring sometimes, as we all know... |

Quit smoking once I got back to Canada and found that smokes were almost $8 a pack. Came back to Korea after five months of bitching about the increase in price, and never got the urge again.
I think they should be about $25 per pack--then again, the crime rate would probably go through the roof. |

Ok I'll admit it. I was a smoker.
It has been over 2 months since I have quit smoking (for about the 3rd time).
I have never really had withdrawl symptoms before. But tonight after a couple cans of beer I really want to spark up. I haven't mind you. But I think it's just weird that after 10 weeks. this sense of craving has hit me so hard.
Has anyone else had this feeling? |
Beer and fa gs go well together. Yes, they do. Which is why a German company have come up with this:

Nautilus Launches Nicotine Beer: NicoShot, A New Brew Designed To Help Drinkers Stop Smoking
(PRLEAP.COM) STUTTGART, Germany, — Nautilus GmbH Laboratoriumsbedarf announced today the
recent European launch of NicoShot, the worlds first smoking-cessation beer
containing a shot of natural nicotine, about what you would get in a couple of regular filtered cigarettes. NicoShot is brewed to the German Purity Law of 1516 and contains 3 milligrams of naturally derived nicotine alkaloids, 63 calories and 4.5 carbohydrates, with
6.3% alcohol by volume per 250 ml shot can. The cutting-edge nicotine beer is fire brewed separately and a standardized herbal extract of natural tobacco leaf (Nicotiana tabacum L.) of the Solanaceae nightshade family is added at the end of the natural brewing process. |

I just browsed through that website. I am going to try and quit today, cold turkey. I had one cig left in the pack...it's in the trash now. I've needed to for awhile, but never got that urge to really do it. Thanks for the link, I now have the urge....I'll let you know how it goes. But god help me, the next time I drink....that will be the test.

Korea, and the smoking culture and the low price of cigarettes are an excuse used by people who don't want to quit. I used to use it. If you want to quit, you will. The price of cigarettes are not a determining factor really, in why people quit smoking. Wanting to live a non-dependant, healthier life is.
Most smokers will admit to at more than one point in their lives, rooting through the ashtray and then the garbage for a decent stogie, when they ran out of smokes, whether the original cigarette was expensive or not. That's disgusting, and an example of what addiction does to a person.
Don't kid yourself any longer, either continue smoking or stop. Just don't use cheap cigarettes as an excuse not to stop, because that's exactly what it is, an excuse. At least you're thinking about it, it's a start. Zyban worked for me. |

Doing fairly well....when I drink, that is the hardest thing! I have not bought any since that day...however, there have been a couple of times when I was out on the weekend drinking...and if the person or people I was with had them....I bummed a couple. Bad bad, I know....But I swear, that's been the only time! It's definitely a more social thing for me. Maybe I should just invest in cigars? Before that day I was smoking maybe a pack or two during the week....and if I was drinking on the weekends, then I would go through an entire pack in one night. |

This would mean something if it were back in Canada or the UK where a single cig costs close to fifty cents. People scowl after one or two and then you're off to buy a pack....
But here, hell, I have friends who carry around both regular and menthol, "because you never know when you might just like a minty"... They're thrown around like rice at a wedding.
People trek out from the bar to get some smokes, and they come back with five packs and just leave them in the center of the table... actually, the recipient usually tries to buy them a drink in return, so they come out ahead for their generosity, usually.
Tough going out with friends who smoke here. Tough. They don't put pressure on you to smoke, but they make sure you know that that pack there's available, if you want it.
I'm twitchy around my smoker friends. Been one month, three days, and maybe 10 bummed smokes on two bad nights, one involving soju. Ugh.

It's best not to go out drinking at all. 90% of those who smoke during the first two weeks of giving up, fail to quit. I don't think you have it licked yet ~ good luck, though. Keep fighting. |

If it helps anyone....I still haven't had a smoke yet. I have been out drinking and played poker with smokers and haven't cracked.
I keep telling myself this: "You've gone for so long without having a ciggie and it would have been all for nothing it you had one now...Jacka$$!'
Then I get a buddy to smack me upside the head if i ask for one twice in a night! |

ha....I have got to try that one. I told all the teachers at work if someone saw me smoke one, I would have to pay them 20,000 won. |
