Right, my old pc just died on me, and so I have decided to buy a new one (i.e. buy all the bits from danawa and then set it up myself)
I havent got loads of money to put into it but I would like a pc which is capable with photoshop cs, and later on in the year I will be using it as a mini cubase type music station. (My delta 66 sound card will be sent to me).
So a powerfulish computer which is not too expensive.....
These were my thoughts:
Asus A8N-E nForce4 Ultra (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-088-AS) (Always liked Asus boards)
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 90nm (Socket 939) - OEM (CP-131-AM)
GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS2.5 (GE1GB3200BHDC) (MY-005-GL) (1gig)
LG GSA-4163BA 16x16 DVDRW Dual Layer ReWriter (Beige) - OEM (CD-027-LG)
Leadtek WinFast PCX6600TD GeForce PCX6600 256MB DDR TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-046-LT)
Akasa AK-855-BL Copper Base CPU Cooler (Socket 754 & 939) (HS-022-AK)
Enermax Noisetaker 485W EG495AX-VE(G) SFMA ATX2.0 PSU (CA-007-EN)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 Plus 200GB ST3200822AS SATA 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-016-SE) (I have a 60 barracuda as well)
Tower case - any ideas (I had a coolermaster at home, can u get these or good aluminium boxes for good prices here)
19inch monitor, any suggestions? I don't want an lcd because of my photo editing work.
So what are your opinions? Any ideas...!?
Thanks |

Cute little machine.
Not much to add, but if you want a CRT they're pretty cheap these days. |

It'd probably be better to go for a 6600GT with 128MB than the 6600 with 256. The additional memory is nice, but the additional speed with the GT more than makes up for it in almost every case.
For heavy duty Photoshop work, hmmm. Not sure on this, but my gut instinct is to go for the 6600GT.
As for 19" monitors, you can pick up new CRTs pretty cheap. Check the stats on 'em before you buy to make sure you're not getting a 1280x1024 scaled up to 19" size. But I figure you'd know that already.
Good luck!

As for CRTs, you're right they seem to be going real cheap these days. |

"LE"...Lame Edition.
All LE cards I have ever encountered are awful.
One can get a vanilla 6800 256MB for 225,000...nice card. |

By the way, can anyone recommend a vendor from danawa.co.kr (or whatever) as it looks like it will be much easier getting all the stuff from one place. I have no idea how trustworthy all the shops are. If you use a particular guy, and you're happy with the service, any chance you could pass the info along...?

If you are looking for Danawa prices, it will be tough. You will get close, but not on the ball.
Call any of them and tell them what you want....see how close to your math they come. Yeah, it''s time consuming (perhaps), but you would be surprised how many of them are satisfied with the margin they make on the Danawa quotes.
My bet is that you won't have trouble getting near those prices...within a call or two.
Going there? You will get even closer and perhaps even save some money....or at leastget a couple of freebies thrown into the deal. |
