I think this is presuming too much, in much the same way that you felt labeling someone as a psychopath, a coward, or a rapist would do. None of us have any real balanced and informed idea of either the circumstances that led up to this, or the type of person he is.

It seems you want to say he is a normal person who committed abnormal acts. If so, I would wonder what it means to be normal. I guess that I just tend to think of normal as based on the actions of an individual, rather than what is "inside".

I agree with you 100%, though, that everyone has a "shadow". It's just my opinion that, since we all have the same dark possibilities, the difference between him and us is that we are lucky enough not to have allowed ourselves to fall down that slippery slope (at least so far...knock on wood).

that's not necessarily true. korea is a small place. did the article say where in korea this guy taught? or when? i think there's probably a pretty good chance a couple of us did knonw this guy at some point. creepy.

the thing i can't get over is that he took off to japan and left his dead wife in the freezer. surely he could have made some attempt to get rid of the body. if he was just trying to get out quickly, why not just ditch her and the house and hop on the first plane out of there? why go to the bother of chopping her up?

Wow. If that was brought up earlier in the thread, excuse me for missing it...I didn't read it all in detail.

If some people here did know him that would blow my mind. Unbelievable...not to mention disturbing.

Puts an interesting twist on the foreign friends you hang out with here, doesn't it? How sure are you that you know them?

Don't look for people who knew this guy when he was here. Look at that freakiest waygookin thread to see if there's some kind of a reference to him...and then look at all of those other stories that are there, too...

This guy, probably, was no different than you or me. We are all uncomfortable with the dark side of humanity. The most common way of dealing with this is to draw a false line between "them" and "us" and claim that they're psychopaths, cowards, the same as child rapists, etc. Even invent dramatic psychotic names like "freezer killer" that make us more secure in our supposed normality.

This probably normal guy likely went down a slippery slope into extreme irrationality. Difference between him and us: we are lucky enough to not have fallen down one.

Actually, UK judges really have sympathised with child rapists before.
None the less, you're post makes me shudder. I really hope your wrong, but you probably have a point.

Time to watch a nice brainless romantic comedy before I sleep.
