|

WASHINGTON - The percentage of Americans who believe Islam is more likely than other religions to inspire violence has declined in the past two years, according to a poll taken after the London bombings.
Just over a third, 36 percent, now say the Islamic religion is more likely to inspire violence, while 44 percent said that in July 2003, according to the poll conducted by the Pew Research Center and the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life.

Just over half in the poll, 55 percent, said they have a positive view of Muslim-Americans. That's roughly the same number who felt that way in July 2003 and higher than the number who said they have a positive view of Muslim-Americans in March 2001, before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
|
Quote: |
Of those polled, 60 percent said the terrorist attacks represent a conflict with a small radical group.

Its nice to see that muslims have given up their jihad finally after 14 centuries. We can all be friends now hopefully. We should do as much as we can for muslim people now to win their friendship. |

Good article.
It seems some of the hysteria following 9/11 is fading. The essential moderation of Americans seems to be re-asserting itself. Good sign. |

Or perhaps the essential ignorance of Americans is reasserting itself. Hence, the misunderstanding of the root causes of Islamic terror. Namely, the Koran and the hadith. |

Yes.
All over this board, Mr. Non-Religious interprets religion he doesn't like.
Explains why it's BAD.
Any comments on the Bible or the Torah? |

When huge numbers of people all over the world start killing others explicity in the name of Jesus, while quoting the Bible, while at the same time mainstream leaders state that 'this isn't Christianity, Christianity means peace!', then we can start analysing the Bible.
But, that's not happening, so I'll stick to critiquing a certain religion inspiring murder and mayhem all over the world. Nice try. |

A nasty comment. Not all Americans are ignorant bar stewards In the same way not all Muslims are evil scum hell bent on blowing up as many people as they can.
People please stop all this generalising about other cultures-countries-religions. It is pretty ignorant.
There are dumb agressive islam types and dumb aggressive American or (insert nationality here) types. I'm more scared of the smarter nasty people in the world as they cause a lot more damage.
The only way that a 'slim' majority of Americans show themselves as really stupid is for voting for Bush and believing that they are the greatest country in the world in an obnoxious and annoying manner.. |

The fact that a majority of people do not link Islam and violence does not mean that anti-Muslim crimes will not increase. |

CAIR is an apologist for Islamic extremism, has links to extremist Wahhabi backers and like all other 'moderate' Islamic groups will go to any lenghts to exaggerate 'Islamophobia'. I think we should be more concerned about the 'Infidelphobia' which has claimed the lives of thousands all over the world. |

If it is such a big concern, maybe you should sign up for the front line. Americans, Australians and the British all have troops there. If you are Canadian, you could volunteer for Afghanistan. |

seriously. Why don't you all do something instead of whining about Islam and Muslims on a silly message board? Sign up for the army, try to get a job with the foreign service, etc etc. |

Would we expect anything else from terrorist-supporting wackos?
GO FIGHT! KILL! KILL!
Seems to be the theme on your minds.
Oddly, I seem to remember other posters on this board offering this same advice to you weeks ago, but you didn't provide any answers of your own as to why you don't go there and fight. |

Firstly, I was not asked the question, it was directed towards someone else.
Secondly, I did look into joining the army but I'm disqualified for health reasons.
Thirdly, in DC last Fall, I helped a Palestinian advocacy group and was offered an internship to assist an Iraqi advocacy group (which supports the war in Iraq btw), but beforementioned health problems were just beginning then.
Fourthly, presently going through orientation to assist refugees adjust to life in the States, and planning to apply for masters programs in Intl. Relations for next year. |

Ah, so you admit that there are other ways to support the war on terror, other than picking up a gun?
Interesting contrast to your previous suggestions. |
