Has anyone ever surfed through the resumes on the the other sites that others posted up? Perhaps not surprisingly, it's rather sad and comical like the whole Korean ESL industry itself.
I got a good half-hours worth of entertainment out of it tonight. "Hot Resume" of the night:

My name is Morgan. I'm recruiting for my brother. I'm asking for 1,000,000 won to retain his services. I offer a money back guarantee. if you are interested please send me an email, I would be happy to setup an appointment to meet with you. My brother is not picky, decent, relatively new accomodations and standard salary with competetive benefits is a must, as well as a fun enviroment. He is hard working, kids love him, and has family here in South Korea. He is an asset to anyone he works for.

Haha, I think next time I look for a job, I'll ask for a recruiting fee for
myself.
Anyone directly involved with the hiring of employees have any funny stories? I'm sure there are a few out there....sort of twist on the freaky waeguk contest, but more like the freakiest waeguk you never actually got a chance to meet. |

Give me $1000 and I'll convince my brother to come work for you? Yeah, right. |

I have a bit of free time before my next job. Here's an idea:
Set up three ads on one of these CV sites:
1. Good-looking blond 22yo Canadian woman with geography degree and no teaching / childcare experience whatsoever, no references.
2. Fat, bald, middle-aged Kiwi with 25 years ESL experience, education degree, who's raised kids of his own, has just married a Korean, and can speak the language some; excellent references.
3. Black youth worker from the UK who's experienced working with kids of all ages from many cultures and has just finished an MA in child / youth sociology; excellent references.
Now, how many hogwan offers do you think each would respectively get? |

Each teacher must have English Language Teaching Experience in Korea to qualify. And each teacher must be an English native speaker of English.
|
And yet so many of their (5) teachers are American... |

We had a female like that apply to work at my old hagwon. She was a black female from South Africa. She had her MA in Education (or English) and she also did her Undergrad in English. The women was willing to work for 1.6 million (This was 2 years ago), underbidding the position by 200,000. In the end, the school didn't hire her because they felt the students wouldn't adapt to her accent and skin color. Instead they hired a 23 year old Australian man whose idea of free talking consisted of responding "Why?" to everything the students said. |

I'd love to make a fake CV for Karla Homolka, post it on some of these sites, and see if she could get offered a job teaching children in Korea. |
