The customer is always right would mean we are serving the parents, which is how I see it, except instead of what they actually want (babysitting for some parents), what they ought to want (the best chance at learning English as possible, given they paid for their children to be in my classes). I don't judge the director for what he should or shouldn't be doing respective to the "customers" because the fact is if the customer isn't satisfied then they'll go elsewhere and the director-and especially if also the owner-suffers long after we teachers leave the institute.
What do we care what is done outside of our classroom? Do your best at teaching the students, and if outside forces aren't optimal for language development, well that's outside one's hands isn't it? Do what you can where you have the right to do it. And don't let anyone convince you to do less or other than you feel is right in your classroom, even the guy who signs your paycheques because there's too many jobs and your time's too valuable to waste doing something unproductive and outside of one's control.

It's nice to see everybody except my students miss the point.  (At least you're cracking a joke.)
My students have learned about my "province" (when learning about theirs, and the other eight provinces in Korea) as the one in the "far west" with "tall mountains" and English speakers. Most classes learn - when I cover winter units - about Quebec as a big French province (I have many pictures of Canada and tons of postcards to use as realia in lessons, from my first year here.) I also cover in lessons how Koreans speak Korean and the Japanese speak Japanese but the Chinese don't speak Chinese, Canadians speak English and French, etc |

Part of it, I thought so. The other part is that very serious side you've been showing around here lately. You have to admit you don't exactly lighten up at times lately (becoming a dad turns you into your own dad?).
