The cold blooded murder of Jean Charles de Menezes, in the Stockwell underground was no accident.

Whats your point? What would you recommend?

Well, in this case I really don't think it is, since nobody here, was there.

Limiting qualified people to comment on events to people who were actually there cuts down drastically on the amount of people who are allowed to comment on anything, I guess.

Were you there when Bush gave the order to invade Iraq? Were you there when any shots were fired? Surely then you're not entitled to any opinion or comment?

I don't think our esteemed moth's cousin was saying that people don't have a right to comment, or that they should not.

People here have said some things, however, that likely seemed good enough at the time, but in retrospect we can see that not nearly enough facts had come through the gate to support them, and the ugly nature of the things that werfe said were such as would require accuracy in order to justify them.

In addition to the paucity of real info is the fact that a lot of what we were told initially turned out not to be true. Apparently, we now learn, he was not wearing the clothes we were told he had on, and he did not jump over the turnstile. The Home Office issued a statement that his visa status was questionable, I think because he was obtaining employment while living under a student visa, and that this might be why he ran. The police were not in uniform, and I'm still looking for evidence from any investigation that says that they clearly identified themselves as policemen, and so far we have only the officers' word for this - it's likely true, but there hasn't been corroboration.

Oh, yeah, and apart from all of that, of course, since those comments were made here, we know that he was not a terrorist, not a muslim terrorist, and not even a muslim.

All of this is what we know now, and I'm sure there is more I'm not mentioning because I've been busy the last few days and haven't read everything out there. The people on these forums who have said the very ugly things I quoted previously were laboring under misapprehensions - but when they learned the facts later, there no apologies. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that something like that is worthy of a suggestion.

The closest we have seen so far is a few guys who made those remarks earlier say now that the guy was dumb. As if this is enough to deserve 8 rounds, 5 to the head.

If saying or doing something dumb is enough to deserve an impromptu public execution, then most of us here in the CE Forumwould have been wasted long ago - I include myself, but I especially include the people who have condemned this man, and continued to do so after knowing his innocence.

I haven't said the police were wrong to do what they did, and I'm willing to wait until the investigation is over. Both myself and butterfly have been saying that the comments posted here were unkind.

And the people responsible for them seem have no remorse. And I'm curious about that.
