Not a comprehensive solution but a pretty good start to making good its promises to do something about extremism.

Pakistan to expel foreign students

Musharraf ordered 1400 foreign students to quit Pakistan
Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf says the estimated 1400 foreign nationals studying in the country's religious schools will have to leave.
All foreigners are to be removed from Pakistan's more than 10,000 Quranic schools, Musharraf said on Friday.
No new visas will be issued to non-Pakistanis wishing to study in the seminaries and prayer schools. The ban will apply to holders of dual nationality. |
If you're kicking foreign students out you might as well kick foreign teachers out too; maybe that'll be the next step. Pretty delicate balancing act Musharraf has to perform... |

Musharraf's courageous actions will be wasted unless the west has the guts to clamp down in a similar fashion.
But as usual, the apologetic west will do nothing to help itself. very good at finding perpetrators after the act, but useless when it comes to "prevention". |

I'm amazed he's survived this long. If only he could pull off a Park Chung-Hee or Pinochet and make large strides in improving Pakistan's economy, I might feel more upbeat about the situation. I don't have much confidence in him surviving in office (either kicked out or assasinated) and worried who would step into his shoes. |
