my washing machine seems to be putting holes in my clothes, mostly tshirts and boxers. is there a way to change the setting on the washing machine so it doesnt wash the clothes so hard?

also, is there something i can put in the laundry so my clothes are actually soft when they dry? i dont have a dryer, so when my clothes finally dry on the rack, they feel really stiff and not very comfortable. i've read that liquid detergent may help, as i am currently using some korean powder stuff from emart. thanks

The Korean washing machines are very violent and angry...very true. There was another thread on this same topic not long ago, but I recommend the following; 1. Turn on power, 2. Select (wool) setting(much gentler), and 3. Push start button. You can also get fabric softener(Ѻ긯 ) which may be helpful to remedy the stiffness of your dried clothes problem. This may sound strange to you, but what I do is iron the stuff that needs to be ironed when it's wet and then I hang them up. I usually do this as everything comes out of the wash in quadruple knots and if I don't get at the wrinkles quickly, they'll never come out. One last suggestion. Our Samsung "piece of sh*t" washer has an automatic setting which, I feel, doesn't give nearly enough water to clean and rinse the clothes the right way. If your washer has a "" setting, or something similar, on it, you might want to raise the water level/amount a few notches even if you're not conserving water.

Buy some fabric softener. I use the brand called Pigeon, spelled on the container as or . I'm never quite sure about Konglish. Anyway, that'll set you straight as far as softness goes.

Hmm...good question. Mine has two. I put the detergent in the left and the softener in the right and then let the thing go. The water pours through the left slot when I start the machine and the right sometime later. You got a manual or some shots of the machine? Maybe I can get the wife to give some better answers than I? If not, just look at how the water comes out. I'd say put the soap in the first slot and the softener in the third. Maybe the second is for a second wash for the longer/regular cycle?

Just a hint: Korean fabric softeners suck. There's so much water in them that it takes half a bottle to get anything softern than cardboard.

Get to Costco and buy some Downy. Half a capful softens up even my jeans. It's more expensive at the outset, but you buy a LOT less of it, so you save money in the long run.

Use mesh bags. There are no other ways.

Man...that's ridiculous! I have to use a mesh bag or my clothes get tied into knots. How can they possibly be A) clean and b) free from all the soap? No wonder clothes don't last here....the washer pulverizes them.

Never did understand that....anyways, yes...the "wool" setting is the way to go.

Wash by hand. Or foot even. I did it for years. Went through two washboards in my time in Korea. You know, washboards. Those ribbed wooden boards you can see in museums? Using one will get your clothes nice and clean in the rough-hewn country people's fashion. Will get your knuckles all sore and bloody too. Good for putting on the muscles. Or so the girlfriends' say.

This is a sarcastic thread right? Those violent Korean washing machines? The ones that swirl water around and around? Good grief. Confused Hey, just like Charlie Brown. Cool

Yeah, that was my reaction, too. The only way I could imagine any Korean washing machine I've used putting holes in clothes would be ... if I added an adult bobcat along with my dress shirts.

I figure the way these sloshy, front-loading, spindleless (and spineless) drum washers get anything clean is to just bore the dirt out through feckless inactivity and lack of ambition. Oh, I've installed them because that's the look, dontcha know. But nothing beats my trusty washboard, a fat cake of laundry soap, a pair of rubber gloves, and skin-blistering hot water.
