These two were not executed for homosexuality as the article Joo Rip posted says - it looks like the article gave itself a misleading heading:
"Two gay teenagers were publicly executed in Iran on 19 July 2005 for the 'crime' of homosexuality "
They were executed for raping a 13 year old boy. They may in fact have been innocent - I have seen nothing which indicates any evidence in either direction. But this incident is clearly being misrepresented in the western media, and on this thread. |

Innocent or no, I don't think it takes much to convict.
All it takes to convict a woman of adultery (and sentence her to death by stoning) in Saudi, for example, is the agreement of 2 muslim men. |

*Found this loophole in Iranian society: you can indeed have multiple sexual partners in Iran, just so long as you marry them all first.
"Ten minute marriages" (Agence France Presse, June 20, 1998):
"These are marriages in name only, not least because men have theright to deny their responsibilities for any children born of the temporary liaisons. This controversial law allows Iranian men to fornicate, so long as they register their intentions with a religious Sharia court where they fill out a form specifying how long they intend to ``enjoy'' their partner. In many cases the two sides agree to a ten-minute ``quickie'' in which they are able to satisfy each other and still keep within the law. ``The enjoyment marriage is nothing but a legal cover for prostitution,'' says Mahran Keys Doltchahi, a professor at Iran's Free University. ``How can anyone in the world claim that a marriage for ten minutes is a legal act. ... ``My temporary husbands have included one ayatollah, 21 senior clergymen, five famous merchants, a few hundred university students and the head of a hospital in the holy city of Qom .''The hypocrisy of the clergy was highlighted last year when the former government prosecutor, Hojatulislam Mohammedi, was asked if he approved of enjoyment marriages. Mohammedi said he fully supported the concept because it prevented young people from sinning." |

not just in Iran, it's a shi'ite thing. Iraqis are doing it now since Saddam fell (he banned them).
And seriously, if they were only executed for being gay, how did people find out they were gay to begin with??
I bet the boy did get raped. By them? I have no idea. Quite easily it could have been someone else and they just were found guilty of the crime under dubious circumstances. |

The boy would have to claim rape because if he said that it wasn't then then he would have to face the death penalty too. |

Homosexuality in modern Islamic countries' laws
Same-sex intercourse carries the death penalty in five officially Muslim nations: Saudi Arabia, Iran, Mauritania, Sudan, Yemen and the United Arab Emirates. It carried the death penalty in Afghanistan under the Taliban, and in Iraq under a 2001 decree by Saddam Hussein. Homosexuality between consenting adults in private is not a crime in Turkey, Cyprus, Egypt and Jordan. However, in Egypt and Jordan gays have been the victims of laws against immorality along with private citizens engaging in honor killings |

I am sure the Iraqi insurgents would be real tolerant of the rights of gay people. |

you misunderstood me. I meant the temp. marriages were banned under Saddam. obviously homosexuality was illegal then and I'm sure it is now. |

one thing I dont understand is wasnt homosexuality part of the norm in babaylon? which is now IRAN...
I thought back in those days of alexander and kings of the middle easy etc.. were into doing it with men and woman!! or was that only the greeks?
macedonians, romans etc..?
anyway you sure this is the government hanging them or some radical extremist group? dont see any state policeman or state vehicals present
doesnt seem like a proper government punishment..
DAMN!!! IRAN HAS SOME SERIOUS PROBLEMS!!
I can see them being attacked again.. that country should never be left to govern itself.. I think it needs to be the 53rd state of america! |

You have your IRA's mixed up. Babylon was, and what's left of it is, in IraQ. It's just down/up (?) river from Baghdad. Otherwise, yes, there were male temple prostitutes in at least some of those ancient Near Eastern countries.
However, homosexual activity isn't geographically specific to any one area of the world. It is reported that there is even some of it in Itaewon, Itaewonguy.
It wasn't until the Christians and Moslems came along to put the kibosh on it that it went underground. |
