Hi!

I have just been told I will be teaching travel English to a large class of University students. The H.O.D wants me to teach 16-20 holiday destinations and the English terms and vocabulary that goes along with each.

It sounds like a fun class to do but, I have to put together a 'text book' of sorts, and I have no idea on where or how I should go about doing it. Anyone have any suggestions.

The class is designed to be a 2 hour lecture with little to no student intereaction, or so I have been told!

Do you have a lonely planet guide or a phrase book? They would be great for ideas. Perhaps change the destination though...

Separate into sections of discussion - eg, accommodation, food, transport, money etc

Well, thats where you could start anyway...?

It's 6am and my brain isn't fully awake yet, so forgive me. But what the heck is 'travel English'?

I can see lessons in making reservations, ordering food, shopping, asking for directions etc. but that is all covered in regular English classes.

What does the destination have to do with anything other than how to pronounce the names of places? You can't make a two hour class out of that. Well, maybe someone could, but I couldn't.

I think I must be missing something. Maybe I should go back to bed.
