Ok.. this problem has only started on my computer a few minutes ago buts its annoying..
Up until now i've been able to see several websites at the same time. You know, for example if im in website A i can click on my internet explorer icon and another website comes up.. no problems...
However now when i click on the internet explorer icon it replaces the site im in so i cant see more than one website at a time.
Ive had my laptop for about 2 months and this is the first time that has happened. I restarted to see if the problem would vanish as quickly as it came on but it didn't..
Does anybody know how or why this is happening? There is probably a simple explanation...
I hope....
Any help would be great.. |

Download Firefox....
http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
and see if it still happens on that browser also.
It's probably a setting on your computer but once you start using it you'll probably find you never go back to Internet Explorer. |

So far so good with Firefox.. I can get many different pages up.
But i have a lot of learning and re downloading programs to do it seems. I would prefer to be using Internet Explorer i think.. It just seems easier and more convenient.
I am curious about which settings can i change to get Internet Explorer to work like it used to? I didnt change any settings. The problem seemed to occur just after i downloaded Acrobat Reader..Some pages got jammed and my computer hasnt recovered since..
Anyway thanks for the message.. Firefox is fine and with a bit more practice and experience of it maybe i will like it more.. and not go back to Internet Explorer |

Use the firefox for 48 hours you really will never use IE ever again--well if you visit Korean sites you will need to use IE.
The firefox extensions are really cool. I recommend:
1. Mouse gestures Right click hold and then left click you browse back a page. Opposite to go forward.
2. Tab X Close a tab easier. |

Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> Reuse windows for launching shortcuts (click this one off)
That might help.

So, if I read this correctly, evry time you want a new window in IE to open, you re-click your IE icon? In the quick launch, I suppose?
Why would you do this?
Ctrl + N opens a new window, as does clicking the file tab at the top and selecting "open a new'window'".
I have never heard of anyone doing it your way, and quite honestly, I would never do it that way. Asking Windows to open a new instance of IE just doesn't make sense.
I'm sure you were having no problems doing it, and I'm sure you are used to doing it this way, but I just don''t understand. I'm not on my home system right now, and using IE....it does indeed work the way you do it, so I'm not doubting that.
It is so much faster to open a new window as opposed to a new request for IE. I have no idea why it's happening, I just wondered why you did it this way in the first place.
In all my years of computing, I have never heard of anyone doing this. |

Maybe i didn't explain how i open it so clearly.. There is an icon on the bottom left screen for me.. So if i want to open a new internet window i just click on that..The IE icon is located near the Start on the bottom of the screen for me....
That usually takes about ........hmmm less than a second. I didnt realize that doing that way was so outdated and all of about 0.3 seconds slower than the fastest way to open a new window..
I didnt know about Ctrl + N but that isn't a whole lot faster. Now that i heard of that i should practice that more often...
Going to file and open a new window is slower than the way i was doing it....I think maybe i explained how i do it incorrectly..
But please i dont want this thread turning into a different subject.. (How great Firefox is .. and now this)..
The fact is i cannot open more than one IE website at the one time.. The problem doesnt happen in Firefox..
Has this ever happened to anybody?? It is so annoying.. |

I do this a lot, except I don't use Quick Launch, just the shortcut on that start menu popup thingie.
Declan, for a laptop, restarting it doesn't do what restarting a desktop does. You might want to try taking your batteries out for about thirty seconds and then putting them back in. That clears the laptop memory, in my experience, and solves some of these little software quirks. |

Declan... haven't you got it yet? That's right, IE is so annoying. Why continue to batter away at a product that frustrates the way you want to use the Internet? Do you have shares in M.soft perhaps
Just so you know, when you want to look at another site in Firefox, middle click the link with the wheel of your mouse. It will open in another tab. What this saves is more than one instance of Firefox opening which uses less RAM which means your comp has more juice. IE will just open up in front of what you're looking at which is irritating enough even when it's working properly.
We are trying to tell you the best way to solve your problem. Don't take it personally. To be honest, I think there was a registry change somewhere of the tiniest proportions and to mess around in your registry to solve a problem only goes to show how useless IE can be.
But hey, it's your choice... |

The man is clearly insane!
declan - try the Microsoft forums/newsgroups, or just email Microsoft support. They will help you fix it. |

The problem seemed to solve itself as now there is no problem with IE.
Yes, I will explore Firefox but my first impressions of it arenet so good. I am just happy to get my IE back to full order.
Also I got this on another site for help but didnt have to use... Im waiting to see if IE poses a similiar problem in the future...
The first thing to try:
1. Quit all programs that are running.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. Type "regsvr32 urlmon.dll" (without the quotes) and then click OK.
4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.
If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):
• Shdocvw.dll
• Msjava.dll
• Actxprxy.dll
• Oleaut32.dll
• Mshtml.dll
• Browseui.dll
• Shell32.dll
Anyway.. thanks for your assistance.. |

Jeez a lot of people here are crazy about Firefox.. Maybe some people here NOT ME do have shares in an internet server..or whatever they are called..
Look..as a person who isnt computer savvy all i can say is that im happy to get IE back. There were some websites i couldnt access in Firefox..and the graphics were better and still are in IE....
What greater first impression does anybody need?..especially a novice..
I m sure Firefox is great but i m just going to stick with what is more useful for me right now.. IE
Im sorry.. Ok. for not having a clue.
Talk to somebody else about which is better and why.... |
