What if the recruitment was only open to teachers who had already served a year in Korea? It'd cut down on candidates but be a good way to weed the garden.

... the number of teachers who have worked here for a year and would use a recruiter to sign on for another year would be fairly slim I'd imagine.

... besides, if you were hoping to 'clean up the ESL industry in Korea' you'd have to start by helping those most vulnerable (ie. the new teachers). This is just my take on it though, maybe I'm wrong here.

PS: Do I win a prize for being the 3489th person to use the phrase 'clean up the ESL industry in Korea' ?

Agreed, but a lot of veteran teachers find their jobs from networking with other teachers and this could be an extension of that. I did use a recruiter my second year, but largely because I was changing cities and wanted to stay in the same franchise. I used the franchise recruiter and it just didn't work out that well at all. She eventually found a spot but not in the place I hoped for, not with the same chain at all, and not in the time frame I wished for.

... water under the bridge now, I guess. A slightly structured foreign teacher referral system would have been a nice alternative.
