Just finished watching it on the web, nice job Mith...I'm wondering, what is your level of French and do you have some people interested in it on your site, didn't see much upon perusal...and yes, it's a da*n hard language to learn! This coming from a native speaker....

Hey Mith, Fantastic interview bro. Are you a teacher as well as a columnist?

No, I'm not educated enough to be a teacher here. I can do pretty much anything but.

Mont real, my French is kind of like a Gyopo's Korean. I use it quite a bit but verb conjugation and accents are a mess. We were talking about joual just yesterday, in fact. Not that I know any joual. I wonder if Homer does.

I was slightly disturbed by the Arirang registration form...

"What is a secret about my body that no one else knows?" Shocked

Do you actually hear that cheesy music as you walk in? It was quite excruciating.

Cool interview anyway Smile She's not exactly incisive, though, and seems to put forward quite a stereotypical you-are-a-ܱ attitude in a lot of her questions - especially the earlier ones. Quite annoying.

She was quite flustered when asked if she had a cyworld page though. Good work Very Happy

Sorry I did not get to see it mith. I don't have Arirang anyway. Did you speak Korean in the show? (That chick has great English.)

Yeah, agree wtih the stereotypical questions. Bothered me a bit, since any idiot can ask that stuff, but in an interview, the interviewer should get to the heart of it, ask the juicy questions.

Good interview, despite her annoying attitude. Liked that you worked in the visa problem, but she refused to go for that. Nice try.

Yeah, she was surprisingly flustered and I changed the subject back right away. Weird.
The interview was already made out when I got there, in front of her on a pile of cards. One of the questions was vague so I took that out but the rest of them stayed. The cameramen seemed to be afraid of her.
She got me to introduce myself in Korean, probably to prove that I wasn't faking knowing the language.

I think my favourite person to be interviewed by would be Tim Sebastian. "Welcome to the program. Thank you. Ahem. You've never set foot in a university and here you are trying to tell Korea what to do about its space program. What makes you think anyone's going to listen to you?"

I miss Tim Sebastian. Sad

I did almost say, "She's no Tim Sebastian" but decided on re-reading that that would be particularly cruel (since who is?). Despite the harsh questions he always let the interviewee have their say, though. Still, you did answer that question in an oblique way, with your explanation about the other top-ranking countries all having them.

Mind you, Paxman would have been amusing too. "'Bury your bones in the Korean soil'? That's a bit morbid, isn't it? Is that really what you want? Is it really? Why do you describe your love for Korea with an allusion to death? You can't like the place very much if that's what it makes you think of..." etc.

So do you have an area on your web space for French speakers? I'd love to check it out if so....I can give you some cool "joual" terms too!

Ex: Becosse (with an "accent aigue" on the first "e", no French accents on my keyboard.) This means washroom and comes from a deformation of "backhouse" where all toilets used to be.

Ketaine/Quetaine (again "accent aigue" on the first "e"s). This means cheesy and comes from an old Anglo family named Keaton who had the displeasure of being so darn cheesy they named a word after them!

J'ai mon voyage! (literally: "I've got my trip!"--not to be understood literally) A fun expression to be used when something unbelievable happens. Usually preceded by "Ah bain...."

Useless but fun...for some!

I have a birthmark the shape of australia on my inner thigh. Nothing disturbing about that. Wink

Mith, I watched the video online. (I'm home and unemployed) You have a remarkable sense of diplomacy and yet you can be so direct at the same time. Must be that Canadian blood in you. Very Happy By the way, did you know that your eyes sparkle when you talk about constructed languages? I thought that was cute. Your interviewer bore a peculiar resemblance to Rosalind Russell, dont you think? Like an Asian version. Okay anyhoo, I enjoyed it immensely. I thought about joining the army and getting into their DLI program, because I really dig Arabic, but I was afraid they might make me study Korean if they found out anything about me. Confused I know this is really off topic of the post, but do you know of any Arabic immersion programs that are highly structured and not just a self-study... preferably something not involved with the defense industry, because I dont have a security clearance.
Oh, and Mith... I imagined your voice to be a lot higher-pitched than it is. Wink

Nothing disturbing? I know certain religious communities who'd disagree... Confused

(I guess it'd come in useful when teaching teenage boys geography, though Twisted Evil )

I still picture Mith as the guy in his Av. Despite seeing several pics, and now a video (and perhaps sometime, in future, going for a beer or three). I don't know why. There aren't many posters who I think really match their Av's look - Mith and Des are the ones who spring to mind immediately. People using self-portraits notwithstanding Wink

Good on ya man. I was interviewed by Arirang TV Nwes for a spot on Hogwons. I was told much later that it got picked up by CNN.

I have to ask though, I know you said you bored the H2H girl... but come on, seriously, is she really boring in person??

I've met her a couple of years ago when I was interviewed by her.

She seemed cold and distant. She appeared only minutes before the recording and didn't bother to stay behind very long afterwards.

What are you experiences like?

You're talking about the round-featured, big-round-eyed, not very tall girl who hosts (or used to host) Heart 2 Heart, yeah? The one with the rubber-ducky face? I know a couple she interviewed. The (Western) husband thought she was delightful, as professional as she is cute, etc. The (Westernised Korean) wife couldn't stomach the girl or the studio ordeal.
