I saw a number of cracks on various bit torrent networks, but I haven't tried them out. |

There is a real simple way of disabling the "Validation Tool" thing.
Just go to IE and click on tools, then "Manage Add-Ons", find
"Windows Genuine Advantage" and disable it. Then restart IE.
Thats it, just carry on updating and ignore the popup that its disabled. |

Windows media encoder no longer encodes video tracks below WM 9. They want users to have legit updatable copies of XP, or they can't watch video. That's the future goal, anyway. They have consistently made that program WORSE. It's much less user-friendly. |

It only works on the Windows Update site/app - the one that scans your computer and tells you what needs to be updated. Critical updates (ie: security holes) will be given to everyone, but "non-essential" (ie: things that make your computer run better) ones will require authentication.
I thought this was a pretty clean hack - half a line of javascript in the address bar knocks out 1000's of hours of programming by disabling the activex thing that runs the check.
Not only that, I found it on boingboing, the most popular blog on the internet. I suspect it won't be long before it is fixed. |

I have not tired it with IE 7 Beta, most probably they are a bit more clever in that version. |
