So our country is rich with natural resources, mostly clean environment, one of the best places to live in the world, free healthcare, few guns, low crime rate, great social safety net, gay marriage, and miracles at Pearson and now this:

How cool will this be! This is an amazing woman and she is well educated so hopefully she will show the entire world what we canucks know, Canada is the best country on Earth!

I lived next door to GC for a few years and often wondered the same thing myself. It is without a doubt the coolest non-job around, glad to see they're giving to another cool person instead of another loyal political flunky put out to pasture.

A governor general acts in the queens place as the head of our military and state.

And the queen isn't as bad as a bunch of slave owning white guys.

if for some reason the pm and cabinet get taken out she would assume control of the country. also she or he can dissolve parilment. usually this is done only when the pm asks but once a gg did refuse to disolve parilment.

usually the gg tries to do his or her job with as little noise as possible to avoid reminding people that this is an unelected position.

oh yeah this by far doesn't make canada the greatest country in the world.

Canada has too many damn taxes and social programs. medicare, and welfare can stay but the rest, esp multicultralism can go down the toilet.

Would this be on all bank notes?

At least Canada took that silly Union Jack off its flag, something that some countries haven't done.

When I think about Canada, I think of beautiful, open, multi-cultural, free, responsible, and other descriptions. Great, however, does not exactly spring to mind.

What did the queen ever do for Canada? I think its a great money waster by having monarchy attached to Canada. I also refuse to take an oath on that cow. Screw that I will never ever put my life for some one 7 miles away, maybe for Canada but not for the queen.

what makes you think that canada is any more responsible than any other country. We are also not all that free. we have far more restrictions on speech and expresion than the US does. Lots of people like to think of canada as a multi cultural paradise but that is a load of bull. there are lots of problems with racism in canada. Maybe not as bad in some countries, but like i said its not the multicultural paradise people think it is.

I agree with you on canada not being great. but we are pretty good.

so you think the best thing to do is get rid of any sort of multicultural funding?
Not to pass judgement...just curious.

if people want to keep their culture from their home country that is fine with me. that is their choice. Should i have to pay for the government to help them keep their culture? I don't think so. antiracism campaigns and such can and should be kept.
