My KbStar Card still works like a charm. It's worked for 11 months now.

I received a new bank card from KEB today. The lady told me that it worked overseas and it has a PLUS symbol on it. If it doesn't work, i will have to use my TD card from back home and get killed on the currency exchanges.

I have an international KEB card and got a new one less than 2 months ago. I used it a few days ago in America, so it does work internationally.

That said, I have to get the stupid thing replaced every few months, because the magnetic strip stops working after being used on average about 10 times.

ok people how about some updates!!

I have been to HANA BANK, HSBC, KB, KEB, NONHYUP,
hana and keb said YES we will give you international debit card. I signed up with their bank.. then I get a phone call 30 minutes later saying. ohh sorry to imform you but you cant have an international debit card!

the other banks said NO...

so does anyone have an international DEBIT card that works?
or has anyone signed up for a card in the last month or two..

I also heard all international cards which were issued to foreigners in the past will be terminated once the expire dates arrive and will not be allowed to get another card..
so some of you guys with certain banks are lucky but once your expire dates come ITS GAME OVER. they say.. THIS IS BS!!

so whats new here..

I think the OP and most of the posters to this thread were trying to obtain international ATM cards, not international debit or check cards. It used to be easy to get an international ATM card from Kookmin Bank but they changed the rules so many of us have switched to Korean Exchange Bank.

My Nonghyup International Debit & Cash card (ie International ATM card) is still working in NZ as of last week. That card doesn't have an expiry date on it.

My mother just took out more than a thousand dollars using my KB Star international ATM card two days ago. Mine is still working. Maybe it's because I've had the account for more than a year already?

I didn't have any problem getting an international ATM card today at KEB.
It says cash/debit card on the front and on the back there's a PLUS logo.

My Hana Bank and my Nonghyup Bank International cards, as I said, have worked in North America and all over Asia. Hana is Visa Plus, Nonghyup is Maestro and Cirrus. Go get one.

I successfully used my Nong Hyup international card yesterday in Singapore. First time I've tried to use it, so hopefully it keeps on working.

Got it about 2 months ago. Initially I was told they didn't do international cards at all, but I really pressed the matter, and the teller got flustered and someone else (her superior?) arrived, and he told me that I could have one. Took quite a while for them to issue it though, I live in a really rural small town and they had to go into the bowels of the bank to even find one, it was covered in dust, and all scratched, so that's why I was extremely dubious as to whether it would work at all.

Just back from CAnada today, and the KEB card worked fine. I think the problem IG is having is tied to the debit thing. I've always understood debit to mean I could go to a shop, buy stuff, wave my card and have the funds withdrawn from my account that day- nothing to do with using it ATMs.

I don't think Korea has this system just yet ( oddly enough), so perhaps that's why they're getting confused?
