i was in vancouver 2 days ago. one of our haunts is casa gelato, the place that is famous for making all sorts of odd-flavored ice cream. they have curry, garlic, durian, chili-chocolate... etc. etc. about 300 flavors, both traditional ice cream and some that are more... 'exploratory'.

"excuse me, but do you have kimchi gelato?"

"oh, sorry, not right now. it's just not that popular. we carry it sometimes but often just goes to waste".

i was filled with simultaneous mirth and disappointment.

how awesome would it have been if i had somehow brought kimchi ice cream back to seoul?

Actually I'm kind of glad you didn't. If word got out about this, then there would be Korean tv crews flying to Vancouver to do segments on kimchi's "...popularity around the world as a part of the main course as well as a dessert"!

I can picture the segment now on some Korean talk show. They'd have the Korean female host holding one of those insect-looking microphones talking to various Canadian customers about the gelato. They'd be sure to get a clip of a customer smiling and saying "good!". Then they would simultaneously flash "��!!!~" on the screen with the laughtrack in the background giggling or going "oooooooohhhhhhh". Laughing
